Paying to Park at the airport vs rousting someone to bring you

This is inspired by the shuttle thread. Why is it automatically assumed that when someone has to fly somewhere they need to get a ride to and from the airport? Why can't they just drive their lazy cheap asses to the airport themselves?
I find it hilarious when a group of our friends are going on a weekend trip and some of them inconvenience their parents or friends to drop them off and pick them up. Sometimes at 6 AM if its an early flight. I'm talking about people in their 30's hardly struggling for cash.
If you can afford to fly to Vegas, NY, Chicago, etc. for a few days you should be able to afford the 70 or so bucks for short term parking. And if you can't, use park n fly!
I guess I just don't understand why it is only an airport thing. Its just expected by some to get a ride. No one I know asks their parents/friends to drop them off and pick them up for Saints/Pelican games. They just pay to park. What's the difference?
Maybe it bothers me more than others. My office is relatively close to MSY so I constantly have people asking me to drop off/pick them up, and if they can park at my office. I typically say yes but silently wonder why these people think their money is more important then my time?
Close rant!

I don't want my car sitting in an unattended lot for days on end.

I just Uber and pay the $25 for the round trip

Then park in short term parking. Parking spaces are wide. I travel at least twice a month for the last 10 years and have never had a problem.

I never ask anyone to drive me. I either take a $25 cab or park for $15 a day.
Usually prefer the cab. Simple as hell. Give them a call, tell them what time to pick me up, get out right at curbside check in. Get off plane, walk outside, get in one of many cabs sitting there waiting. Done, profit, etc.

Fifteen a day. You don't use Newark do you?

Because we aren't loners and have friends and family that don't mind helping to avoid an unnecessary expense and potential damage to your vehicle?
ETA: Or use Uber like I did when I was in DC

i take uber. its $80 round trip, assuming you do economy parking, this is about 5 days in the lot.
I will say our friends offer us to take them to the airport regularly. I don;t know why but htey do. we decline.
we also get asked a fair bit, we usually tell them we are busy.

Pay the extra and park in the airport garage, which is also covered.

That's a new one. I guess self sufficient people considerate of other people time are loners.
I will say this, it is mostly from people that don't travel often. I assume they just don't know any better. But I have some friends that travel often that have no clue how or where to park at the airport.

I'm plenty self sufficient. Doesn't mean I'll go out of my way to unnecessarily throw money away.

Gotcha, you just go out of your way to throw other peoples time away. Makes sense.

Well most of the time the only person that knows I'm leaving is my wife, so can't argue with you on that one!

In my 20's, I always assumed and expected a friend to pick me up, and I always picked my friends up at the airport. Now that I'm in my 30's, I figure out my own transportation unless my host eagerly insists on picking me up, and I no longer go out of my way to pick people up at the airport. It's sort of a shame thing. If I can't get to your house on my own, I look like a loser who doesn't have his shite together and who expects you to take off work in the middle of the day to wipe my arse.
There's also no more "Hey bro can I crash on your couch?" in my life. If I stay with someone with a guest room and they invite to have me stay with them, great. I have a guest room as well, and I use it. If my friend doesn't have an extra room, I just stay at a hotel.

I think it's $8/day at MSY. That's cheaper than a cab.
