Pac12 runs a lot of spread on offense so the yards per game can be misleading.

This. Even a great DC isn't going to slow down Oregon, UCLA, and both Arizona schools on offense every year.

We also have to remember that QB play in the SEC wasn't great this year, while the Pac 12 had several solid QBs that year. Not to mention the RB talent in the PAC was pretty good that year too with Sankey, Grice, Tyler Gaffney, and Carey

i assure you, i love stats, but most of them in college football mean very little. there are way too many variables, there are so many teams, with such different styles and different levels of schedules, and we rarely if ever play each other.
you simply cant compare a SEC team to a PAC team and come to any real conclusion.

the main stats that i think sort of tell a story are TFL and Sacks, because thats about your ability to control the line, regardless of what kind of offense you're facing.

EDIT: for the record

USC 2013
TFL - 6.5 pg
Sacks - 2.54 pg

LSU 2014
TFL - 5.45
Sacks - 1.46
