What is it?
It is basically when your brain wakes up from a deep sleep, but the rest of your body does not. You are essentially paralyzed. For me, it can last up to about 10-15 seconds. I'll have my eyes open looking at my room, but I am unable to move. Sometimes it feels like someone else is in the room with me.
It's a very interesting thing. You can do research on it. It goes back to the medieval times. People used to see like a black demon looking creature in the room with them when it happened. Or sometimes sitting on top of them keeping them from moving.
It's creepy. I've learned how to wake myself easier from it over the years because it happens so much. You can control your breathing and I can always move my toes, which helps me wake myself up.
Still though. It sucks.
ETA: It happens to me sometimes as I'm falling asleep sometimes too. Not just when I'm waking up. When I'm really tired, I can make it happen on my own. It's weird.

I've had it a few times and only the figure in the room 2-3 times.
The feeling of being strapped to your bed immobilized and something looking over you is beyond terrifying

Ohhhh that has happened to me before. Freaked me out. Had just had a dream about someone breaking into the house, opening the door to come into my bedroom their gun aimed at me and then that happens.
