ATL, EG related re stretch. If he comes back, plays halfway decent, and we cut and stretch him, someone is going to sign him for the MLE, right? Also, do we get cap relief if he signs elsewhere for the MLE?

He must really be a miserable person

We should sign him and tell him the first three he shoots we're cutting him

I"m good with that.
I'd extend it to long jumpers as well. Tell him he can shoot 1 a game, if he makes it he can shoot it again, but once he misses, he can't shoot another one or he's cut.

That's the hope. His injury concerns may keep that from happening, but he's proven he's a starting quality player *when healthy, so getting the MLE seems reasonable. However, he would be getting paid by the Pels, so he could choose just a 1 year minimum deal in a good situation. With his injury history though, hopefully he'd jump on any deals with multiple years which would need to be more then the minimum to make sense for him to sign.

You get 1/2 of the difference between what he signs for and his veteran minimum. So if he signs for the MLE, about $5.3 million, the vet minimum is about $1.2, so half of that would be $2 million cutting the cap hit to $3.1 million over 3 years.

Houston has advantage on most Josh Smith suitors, who only have minimum slots available: Rockets can offer Smith its bi-annual exception.

Please Houston, take him.

Good read about Pelicans do not need or should go after Smith.
"Pelicans are 14-13 despite playing the second most difficult schedule in the league. East portion coming soon."

I think we should. Team needs more talent. I agree with the jump shot rule though. Dude should never take a jump shot outside of 10 ft.

I don't want to see Smith in Houston. Teams are too tough in our division as it is

Yeah, I think that's playing with fire. I was all aboard Anthony to Houston creating an epic train wreck, but Melo can back his wanting to be alpha dog up, so there'd have been an ongoing power struggle. Harden and Dwight might be superior enough to Smith to keep him in check.

Exactly. I'd sure as hell take him over him going to the rockets.

Your post makes me think you dont understand basketball, Josh smith, or the Pels roster haha.
I'm just in the camp of adding as much talent and athleticism as possible. He would be a smarter player with a better attitude if he were on the Pels because he would be a role player relegated to doing what he does best: rebounding, defending and getting out on the break.
But if you'd rather roll with Babbit at the 3 the rest of the year that's cool too I guess...

That's pretty shocking. He must have put his hands on SVG or something.
Id imagine there would be some kind of clause allowing them to cut him if that were the case.

I'd take him at the minimum, but I would guess that he is going to wind up in hoston

Houston's aggressively pursuing Smith, sources say. Rockets-Smith had strong mutual interest 'in 13, but couldn't get sign-and-trade done.
Rockets tried to trade for Smith, but couldn't make the contracts match without losing Howard or Harden. Howard's strong advocate of Smith.

Cunningham is a much better basketball player than Smith. If you have watched both, there's no way you disagree.

Josh smith was on pace to be the first player to ever average below 40% FG and below 50% FT

That just makes sense doesn't it. Of course Howard would like him.
They were meant to be together.
