re: If an IV bag is just water, why am I paying so much for it?

Not a good idea at all! Seriously!
I would get up in the morning and while driving to the parade set up, I'd just hang the IV bag from the oh shite handle in the car and let the IV flow in my arm. By the time I got parked I would be sans any hangover.

If it works as well as you say, all of your hangover problems are the result of dehydration. Toss the pedialyte and drown yourself in powerade.

Omg this thread is just too rich.

the IV fluid is actually pretty cheap
This. The saline itself is relatively cheap. The catheter and the tubing are also pretty cheap. The cost of the nurse "constantly monitoring" fluids being continuously run into your veins, along with the stretcher in the ER you are occupying are the bitch.

The real question is why are you going to the ER for being drunk and hung over
Posted on 12/21/14 at 9:09 am to SuperSaint
cause you gotta help pay for all the ones that they have to give away

Speaking of this, where could I purchase some saline bags and iv's???
Your vet might have some expired ones he might sell to you.
You could always dumpster dive behind the hospital. they usually throw away one or two a day that are not completely used.

The bags of "water" given in the hospital aren't just water. It is a sterile saline solution with a similar concentration/tonicity found in your blood stream. 9 grams NaCl mixed in 1 liter of sterile water. Higher and lower concentrations result in fluid shifts sbd electrolyte derangements which can cause death.
Infusing a nonsterile solution into your blood stream is absurd.

Please tell me that you went to the ER for a hangover!

Threads like this are why the OT never fails.

If he was that "rich", wouldn't he have a personal doc that provides him care while on the road or at his house?

You're an idiot and, apparently, a drunkard.

Go ahead and do that, tell us how that works out for you
I know the blood cells would be hypertonic in regards to the saline-free water and that cell rupture could occur but how severe would the effects be? It wouldn't be fatal if let's say you hooked up a pint bag of just water would it?

Bro one saline and water IV will not 100% cure a hangover

It does a pretty damn good job.

So this thread gave me an idea. My wife is a nurse. Can you order I've fluids on the net along with all the materials needed to start an iv? If so, I'm never wasting away my Sunday on the couch ever again
Posted on 12/21/14 at 10:56 pm to SuperSaint
I'm just saying, it doesn't work THAT well. Maybe when you add B vitamins and all kinds of other shite it will but like someone else said an IV alone is about an effective as slamming a powerade.
