1. Spoon is a better live show
2. Their new album is better than modests mouse newer albums
3. They dont sound like whiny punk rock fgts
4. They dont need 10 people on stage to sound good (and MM Still sounds like shite)
5. MM has better lyrics but thats about it
6. Spoon is still relevant in the indie rock scene. Still puts out good albums after almost 20 years

I always preferred Spoon to MM..
1996-2002 Spoon was one of my top 2 or 3 bands from that time frame.. Although, I've never particularly thought they were an exceptional live band..

Comparing all-time catalogs? No
Live? Sure

I like Spoon and they maybe more consistent, but they don't have any album close to as good as LCW and M&A IMO.
I'm not sure if this post is trolling or not though. Not that liking Spoon more is that crazy, but "they dont sound like whiny punk rock fgts".....come on man.

The music you like is whiny punk rock fgts. ie. Cloud nothings

You're right, that's my favorite genre.

I love modest mouse but their last album was terrible and I seriously doubt their new stuff will be as good as spoon's new LINK.

I think Series of Sneaks and Girls Can Tell are better... but in all honesty, that just boils down to personal preference and I wouldn't care to argue the point..

Of course he's trolling.
I like Spoon, but I feel like they are the model of consistency, but they never reach the highs of Modest Mouse (and never reach the lows). You get a Spoon album, you know exactly what you're getting: above average indie rock. But I just feel that Spoon never quite approaches greatness. They are a solid listen, but they seem to always play it safe and professional.
You need to risk falling flat on your face to make something great. Modest Mouse (and the Cloud Nothings) are willing to go to the edge on their albums. I've actually never seen Modest Mouse live, so I can't comment on them, but Cloud Nothings, since you bring 'em up, blow the doors off of Spoon.
Spoon, of course, will give you your money's worth and deliver a solid, professional show.

I agree with pretty much everything you said there. I also agree with TFTC that it all comes down to personal preference. I certainly can’t prove that Modest Mouse is objectively better than Spoon.

I would actually flip the argument for Spoon and MM (can't really comment on CNs)... though you may have a point with Spoon post 2005 or so

Everything ive heard by Cloud Nothings is really really bad no talent indie/punk garbage. Like a shittier version of modest mouse. Maybe cloud nothings have really good lyrics but i cant make out what theyre saying over all of the basic punk chord reverb from the guitar and yelling. I dont get the hype around this band.ill give it another try if you have any suggestions but not really into their style of music.
They Want My Soul is a great album. I liked it more than gimme fiction even though i doubt it will experience the same kind of mainstream success. Its pretty impressive that they are starting to peak after almost 22 years. Take off the skinny jeans baloo; your balls will thank you for it.

I really need to listen to this band! thanks for reminding me of this...

I also agree with Baloo.
I've never seen Spoon live so I can't comment. I've seen Modest Mouse several times and they put on a great show.
But albums? Come on. There's no argument that can be made that Spoon is better.

What is the point of comparison between Spoon and Modest Mouse? They're very different bands.
That's like comparing the Flaming Lips with Wilco, to me.

pretty much how I feel. I would rather listen to a random spoon track than a random modest mouse. But i enjoy both of them.
And seen both of them live. Both shows were awesome but modest mouse I saw in early 2000s. So its not comprabable, i have heard their show has gone downhill since then.
and I really dont think the new spoon album is that great. Didn't make my top 20 of the year.

Attack On Memory is such a fantastic album, but it worked even better at the time of its release as it was such a departure from the early "bedroom punk". You lose some of the shock of "Holy crap, is this the same band?!"
(Which it sort of isn't, as the first album was Baldi all by himself playing every interest, and he actually got a supporting band for Attack on Memory. And my wife f'n HATES it so I get where the OP is coming from. I mean, they use a lot of feedback and screaming, two things she's not overly fond of. My child, on the other, rocks the hell out to it)
