My doctor buddy doesn't make his wife cover up or subjugate his daughters (

By every measure, they're your typical middle class, Western family, except they just so happen to be Muslim because that is what he and his wife were raised.

I think most people do, and nothing is problematic with the OP, IMO. It is extremely common for women to be subjugated in Islamic households.
