Losing a best friend

I'm very sensitive to this right now, given my earlier thread concerning my pet.
Damn onions in the room. I feel like I have a lump in my throat after reading this.

Nice tribute for a loyal friend.

They never live long enough. I've had labs who hunted with me and its tough to lose a companion, they are so devoted.
My current dog is the best hunter I've owned and my 4yr old daughter has grown up alongside her. While I enjoy the time, it is tough not to think about the day she will join the others. I hate losing that part of the family. The only thing that ever filled the void was to raise another one, but no two have been alike.

Mine was recently diagnosed with a cancerous tumor that's engulfed his carotid artery & they can't operate. Vet said he's got a couple months at the most. I'm 23 and my dog is over 13 y/o; I grew up with him... not fun watching him coming towards his end.

Got the onions over here as well. So sad. Dogs are truly a man's best friend

Sorry you're going through that man. Good luck and I hope the end is painless and peaceful for your buddy.

as a lab owner who lost my male black of 12 years a couple months ago... it hurts! I still have both my yellows and i will be lost without them. Better than MOST humans

Sounds like he had a full and happy life. He was a fortunate dog. He died in his happy place. Hope I'm that lucky. Rip

You don't really have to be to recognize that the post in the op is pretty well written and moving.

These are always the worst pet losses
I got mine when I was in the fifth grade as a just-legal-to-sell puppy. She spend almost the entire 6 hour drive back from the breeder nested in the crook of my arm.
She died nearly 13 years later....made a trip back from college when she suddenly took a rapid turn for the worse. Her back legs didn't work but that didn't stop her from trying to crawl to me wherever I was to be pampered with attention. I slept that night on the floor by her side, and she was put to sleep the next day with me petting on either side of her head, dominating her field of view and comforting her in her last moments.

I had to bury a lab about 12 years ago. She was only 3 years old and contracted a very aggressive form of cancer. I sat by her side as the vet helped her move from this life. I then wrapped her in my favorite blanket we shared and took her home and cried the entire time I dug her final resting place. Heck I cried for a week after here and there. Tearing up now thinking about that wonderful friend.
A replacement is the only way to get over it. I'm on my 4th black lab now.
Casey, Sadie, Maddie and now Molly. All black girls.

My pug passed away this week as well. That's like the fifth dog this week that has been put down. Been a rough week for OT dog owners.
