Little ones can make it into and on top of all kinds of stuff. Why take a chance they can make it to the top of the closet? Buy a small safe if you have long guns and a pistol lock box if that is all they have. If you have small kids your firearms need to be secured.

As soon as you feel they are ready start teaching gun safety right away. Don't make them scared just educate them and take them shooting. Teach them the dangers in your house but also there friends. Make them understand that if they are ever at a friends house and see an unsecured gun not to play with it.
