But, really, I don't consider the fireman the most important aspect of this video. The MOST IMPORTANT aspect is actually based upon YOUR post. Namely, this "reality" you speak of. You see, you know as well as fricking I do that absent the camera, you would have BELIEVED this firefighter's story just as you likely believe nearly every story uttered by black "witnesses". Just as this firefighter likely always has believed them. The ONLY think that kept you from believing this one was the fact that there is irrefutable evidence to the contrary.
Hence, a not insignificant piece of this "reality" you speak of is built upon knee jerk assuming in these type cases that the black guy is telling the truth. Hence, a lot of your PROOF is self fulfilling.
I always use this example. When I get shitty service or have someone treat me poorly, I never assume it's cause they don't like short white guys. BUT, blacks DO assume it's because the person doesn't like them due to their race. If I walked around and every time someone was an arse to me, I took it to mean they didn't like short white guys, then I would have a shite ton of anecdotal evidence of short white guy bigotry.
quote:Well, even if 100% of the time cops have been accused of racism, they in fact were being racist, they would STILL not achieve the statistical significance of crime rates among young black men. Just sayin.
No it is not. But if law enforcement is going to assume the worst about a particular group, how is it possibly the groups fault for assuming the worst about them?

Idk. How can we scold George Zimmerman for perceiving Trayvon Martin as a potential burglar?

This is why all cops should where cams...and be in favor of wearing them.

This should be the end of the story. Until Blacks will call out right vs wrong, there will always be a racial tension. The power to change lies within self not others...

I've been asked this question by every cop I've been stopped by. Pretty sure it's a standard question.

Agree
StrongSafety has completed excused the fireman based on the mere fact that he is black.
...and this is a situation where the entire thing is caught on camera and the facts are crystal clear. He simply can't escape the narrative...even when confronted with direct evidence.

You know why? law enforcement has a documented history of policing brown and black people exponentially harder than other groups. And they have made it well known as well. How is it our fault that they preconceive us as criminals, and always have?
Law enforcement has lost the benefit of the doubt in a lot of these communities and they only have THEMSELVES to blame for it.
That's a systematic problem rooted in their core, and if they expect change, they are going to have to change the way the view and treat people. these are not antecodal incidents for the blacks and brown people..its life for them. So their is absolutely no need to downplay their fears and perceptions when they are rooted in reality.

Excused? I gave a reason for why he thought this cop was going to blow his brains out.
This board has a hard time differentiating between excuses and reasons.
Oakland PD also has a notoriously bad reputation within that community as well. Which is all their fault.

So you're good with preconceived notions and internal prejudices?
I mean, that's fine if you are. Just be honest with yourself.

Yes the end of racism will be finalized once blacks, who did not start, perpetrate, glamorize, uphold, and engrain prejudical structures into our countries fabric, will qualm all white racial xenophobia and bias.
Very asisine realm of thought to have IMO.
This is mess that has to be cleaned up by everybody.

I was asked if I had guns or drugs too. Weird. I thought it only happened to blacks.

Oakland is one of the most violent places in the US and it's the cops fault?
When will violence, crime and drugs determined to be part of the problem with the way law enforcement polices a particular area.
Do you think if officers weren't in fear of their lives every time they make a stop they would still behave the same way?
Officers need to improve and the community needs to improve. Neither happens without the other happening.
Who in their right mind would want to be a cop these days (in certain towns/cities).

Wrong, he flat out lied about what was said

You live in the south, it is hunting season, that coupled with the normal CCP holders and just people that have guns in their vehicle means there is a high probability that the majority of cars pulled over have at least one firearm. Stop being a racist POS

except they are taught to think this way, and its irrational - police officers are safer today than at any time in the last 20 years. Their training is full of the rhetoric of "warriors" and "war zones", and their gear is that of a military kill squad.
quote:
Policing has been getting safer for 20 years. In terms of raw number of deaths, 2013 was the safest year for cops since World War II. If we look at the rate of deaths, 2013 was the safest year for police in well over a century. At the current pace, we can expect to see a 17 percent increase in on the job law enforcement fatalities this year over last year. That would put the total number of police officers who die on the job this year at 117, making 2014 the second safest year for cops in terms of raw fatalities since 1959. It would also put 2014 as the safest year for fatality rates in over a century. You’re more likely to be murdered simply by living in about half of the largest cities in America than you are while working as a police officer.

So it's OK to assume that ALL southern white men hunt, and THAT is reason enough to profile them and ask if they have guns? (By the way, I DO think it's OK).
But in your mind it is racist for cops in LA to operate on the assumption that blacks and Latinos MAY be gang bangers, and proceed accordingly?
Soul search brother.
