They protected themselves and served the kid. Can't expect too much more from cops these days.
Completely avoidable. They will never see the inside of a jail cell though. At some point this reaches a breaking point with this shite. I hope I am not around for that.

Nice, a 12 yr old playing with a toy gun in an empty park = thug.
Keep digging.

that video looks pretty damn bad. He just opened the door and dropped the kid like a sack of potatoes.
doesn't tell the whole story without the audio. they told him to put his hands up three times. he reached for his gun...

I won't pretend to know the first thing about procedure, but they seemed to rush in there like he was a visible threat.
It's because too many of them see themselves as soldiers in a war zone.
The hysteria about "active shooters" has gotten way out of hand.

unless he used the pa system and they were screaming it pulling up, no way they had time to say hands up 3 times

I think the officers said the window was down and they were screaming at him to put the gun down from a ways away

Why the frick would they drive up that close to him? He's just sitting in the park. Why not proceed with caution and exit the vehicle at a safer distance. Completely avoidable.
that is the procedure. they thought he was an active shooter in the park.

That is just ridiculous.

he pulled up and they jumped out. He wasn't an active shooter since no shots had been fired, they should have used better tactics. If they use better tactics, they go home, the kid goes home and none of this happens. The whole situation was filled with stupid from start to finish. The cops shouldn't get a pass for making a huge mistake even if they thought they were in the right. They should both lose their jobs. the dispatcher should lose her job and the caller should feel bad.

whole situation is screwed up. I certainly wouldn't have rolled up like that in a car in such close quarters. way too aggressive IMO
Posted on 11/27/14 at 10:17 am to monsterballads
If shots had been fired then sure roll up like we are playing GTA. However, if the kid had fired any shots people would have realized its a fricking toy and this shite would have been avoided. Hopefully this situation doesn't turn into white cops gunning down a black kid. It should be a story about over aggressive tactics, bad parenting, paranoid retards, and shitty dispatchers. No one involved in this situation did anything reasonable during it.

Have any proof other than what the cop said?

if you reach for your weapon when a cop tells you to put it down, don't be surprised if they shoot you.
that's just how they roll, we all know that.

I'm more qualified on the topic at hand than you'll ever be.
I know you don't make much money and have a dangerous and demanding job. You say you are qualified but do you think we should pay our law enforcement more so we might attract more qualified people? Do you think law enforcement attracts the best and brightest of society? Sorry but I think it attracts bullies who can't exceed in other fields so they settle for making shifty money and having power.

nope. all cops should be made to wear cameras

yea, of course grown adults know that. this is a 12 year old kid though so its a bit different of a situation. The whole situation was fricked from all parties involved starting with the kid and his parents, all the way to the rookie cop that has a quick trigger finger.
