It's a Wonderful Life is basically a rendition of one of the most classic Christmas tales of all time.
It's a Wonderful Life = Christmas movie
Die Hard =/= Christmas movie

It's not a Christmas Carol and George Bailey is not Scrooge.

Thank you for using common sense.

How can we get you to go back to that?

Amen Breesus. It's a central theme to the film. Die Hard is the GOAT Christmas film. OP, stop being a try hard film analyst and just enjoy it.
Posted on 11/25/14 at 9:46 am to Old Money
Old Money, I do enjoy Die Hard (only the first one), but it is not a Christmas movie. You cannot prove that, sorry. And some of you do not understand the difference between theme and motif.

It was released in the summer of 1988.
Not a Christmas movie.
Not a Christmas movie.

Yet, you knew exactly which Christmas classic to which I was referring.

No, it doesn't

- The importance of family? Die Hard has it.
Not really

- A romance plot? Die Hard has it.
You're REALLY reaching. A "romance plot" means absolutely nothing when determining if a film is a Christmas movie or not. Regardless, Die Hard's "romance plot" is almost non-existent.
If this post is supposed to be a strong case for Die Hard being a "Christmas movie", then there obvioiusly isn't a case to be made.

You, sir, are also correct.

wait, release date is a factor?
so then Gremlins is also not a Christmas movie since it was also released in the summer?
when are Christmas films released? Surviving Christmas was put out in mid October for example.

I love Gremlins.
It's so B-movie cheese...but filmed professionally.
It's sort of what movies should be...total escapism and nonsense but done well.
Or maybe I just love Phoebe Cates?
(probably that)

meh the idea that a movie is a christmas movie or not is completely the persons choice in the matter.

Pretty much.
I find it amusing some want to say if a movie doesn't need Christmas as a setting to work it can't be a Christmas flick.
Well then I guess A Christmas Carol is not really a Christmas story b/c you don't need the holiday to have a tale about ghosts visiting a POS to spur him into being more charitable.
Posted on 11/25/14 at 3:43 pm to Dr RC
for me, Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are Christmas movies, and that's my opinion. doesn't mean I am right, doesn't mean i am wrong.

Is Same Old Lang Syne a Christmas song?
