Our bench is really bad. Young, got potential, but right now we can't get shite from them. We can't depend on 4 players to do 100% of the scoring night in and night out. We just aren't gonna win like this. I do think Epps and Robinson are gonna be really good though.

Players should know exactly what to do in those situations.
The end of the 1st half tells the story of where this team is. If that was the plan or the best shot that we could take then we are fricked from both a coaching & player IQ perspective. Keep in mind that we were just playing ODU.
We put in that same effort against KU and it's a complete embarrassment. And to think that 2 of those guys will be gone next year because they are ready for the NBA baby!

We're gonna have to just disagree- this team is not talented. Average talent (at best) 1-8.

And Im not convinced Martin is an NBA forward

I said it once and I will say it the whole season until things change, our PG mentality is going lose us more games than win.
Gray was a beast in juco because he could out-athlete people just like high school. Now he has to understand how to make the players around him better. He needs to understand the flow of the game, when to push, how to get people in the right position, and end of game situations.
This is something Johnny should have drilled into Gray already. As a former PG idk how this is something Johnny hasn't fixed. They are supposed to have the same mindset and philosophy, which they clearly don't.

You cant disagree that Martin and Mickey ar eNBA forwards, they are being projected, at worst, as 2nd round picks with both being mocked as 1sts by several different publications.
On top of that Gray averageed like 9ppg more than ANYONE in JUCO last year, the kid can flat out score.
On top of that Hornsby ALREADY has averaged 15 points per game on the Division I level prior to this season, so clearly he can play.
That is 4 at minimum, good players who CAN score...and score a great deal. You cant ask for us to have blue blood level of talents where 5-stars are coming off the bench.

Did you watch today? Gray was very passive and tries to get everyone else involved passing up scoring chances. Christ, he passed the ball to Brandon Eddlestone under the basket when he could have just went up and at least picked up a foul. He needs to stop trying to dish it out 15 times a game and take the easy scoring opportunities when they are presented to him/

Seriously, though, remember how cool it used to be when we could actually seriously hope to make the NCAA tournament? I wish those days would return sometime, but am not very optimistic.
The SEC looks pretty bad again this year..if we can make it out of non conference play without losing to anymore directional type RPI 90+ teams we might be ok

And we have absolutely nothing after that. Nada, zilch, zero. We have nobody we can rely on to score off the bench. Lucky for us, the bench is comprised of young talented guys who should get much better as they start to get a better feel for the game and our system. But right now we're relying on 4 guys to do all of our scoring. That just ain't gonna work.

You must have misunderstood the post. Being a PG is all about finding a balance btwn being aggressive and getting others involved. He can score at will almost, but the issue is confusion with the team, offense, and flow.
Regardless, if guys are confused on the court that's on him and Johnny. I just don't see gray directing guys where they need to be.

Ive seen every second of all 3 games plus the exhibition. I've seen nothing that resembles a tournament team.
Gray has no idea how to finish a fast break.
Gray and Hornsby came in as 90% free throw shooters.....have missed multiple so far
Mickey disappeared tonight.
We get no easy baskets.
We cant defend a high ball screen
I could go on but i want to vomit
Exactly! We don't dictate shite on the court and we have the players to do it. That's just bad coaching. JJ has the players to play fast, slow, big, small...whatever the frick he wants to do. The questions is...What does he want this team to be? Right now, they look like a bunch of un-disciplined street ballers. That won't win games when it counts as a great coach will offset our talent.
I don't get Gray. What happened to the kid that we recruited? He's got to be a leader out there and MAN he looked scared and out of place tonight. Couldn't finish at the basket for shite. He doesn't even need to take the shot...just apply the pressure and let one of the 2 studs finish.

I think he's over compensating. I think the coaches told him he can't do what he did in JUCO. He was chucking up 30-40 shots a game. He can't do that here. So he's being way too passive. For Josh it's gonna be all about finding a happy medium between being assertive and being a facilitator. Right now, he's trying to be too much of a pass first guy. I bet there will be games where he forces up some really bad shots as well. It's all about feel for the flow and pace of the game, playing within yourself, and playing as a team. Right now, I think Josh and the team as a whole doesn't have a great feel for the game so they're rushing and forcing things and not playing their game. I also don't think they've found what their best at as a team yet.

Good game, guys. Refs involved a little too much in both halves, and we were fortunate to have some role players step up and hit huge shots at critical times.
Best of luck the rest of the way.

If gray and jones can't get on the same page we aren't going anywhere. This team needs a PG, not a scorer who can handle the ball, or a guy to take up space, but something in the middle. Gray just hasn't found that yet.

4 guys who can all drop a lot of points is all you need. It's not like 1 or 2, it's FOUR GUYS who can all score. There's a ton of teams out there who certainly do not have that.

To paraphrase a legend:
We talkin bout old dominion man. Not Kentucky, not duke, not Kansas. We talkin bout old dominion.
Lsu has 4 players that are averaging 14 ppg. Old dominion has 1.
Exactly how many more than 4 better than average scorers does Lsu need to be able to beat old do,inion in your opinion?

I don't think he's ever had to be the main facilitator on a team before. I think he's always been the main option on every team he's played on and he's having a hard time adjusting.

And two of them had bad nights. This is the problem. If one of our top 4 guys is off, we have no one to step up and fill that void. Expecting 4 guys to hit on all cylinders every game is ludicrous.

I don't think this will be a "bad" loss when all is said and done. In fact, it probably would have been a "nice" win. The problem is that this group has looked very poorly coached thus far which could bring about those "bad" loses down the road

That is ok and somewhat expected. I'm just confused how Johnny hasn't fixed this. If he wasn't a former PG himself then it wouldn't be that big of a deal
