It is because it's a poor area.
I don't see better together asking the people to annex it in the city.
I also don't see better together trying to annex Alsen which has one of the worst ranked volunteer fire depts in EBRP inside the city.
Sad part they are surrounded by Exxon, parish dump, but line stops right before their area.
Oh how about stevendale area off Florida blvd east. Funny how Florida blvd been in city for years but they forgot river oaks and stevendale.
Sad part the people from better together call st George people racist.
If the better together people are so worried about people why not annex areas in that are poor that could benefit from city services instead of calling everyone else racist?
I would like to know how many people from better together screaming racism lived recently in North Baton Rouge. Bastards can call me racist though and I lived there until 3 weeks ago and I saw issues which city cannot solve due to lack of funding. Love the BRPD and their relationship with neighborhood that still is a joke. How about cutting trees limbs that have fallen on cars at stop sign. Took the city 4 months to come out after I complained. 2 vehicles got damaged and one kid almost got hit by a falling limb waiting for a bus. Yet the city is ok expanding its limits when it cannot serve the existing city.
King Holden worried about downtown and funding for his thug force. How about giving existing employees fair raises and solving problems in the rest of the city.
Yes Florida blvd east paid more than its fair share of taxes over the years especially in the boom from late 70's thru early 90's.

It's an outstanding question that should be asked of the leaders of BR.

Because when we get our own city we don't want the poors screwing it up.

Last time I checked those areas have to ASK to be annexed. Why don't you two go hand in hand to Gardere and take a door to door survey to gage their interest?

They annexed L'Auberge, but not the surrounding neighborhood. What about Scotlandville? Why hasn't Baton Rouge annexed this gem of tranquility.

Funny thing about Section 8. I knew several local businessmen that owned properties in Gardere when it was first developed. They laughed and bragged about the "easy money" they were getting by putting Section 8 tenants in their rentals. Then when the Section 8'ers hit critical mass and everyone else fled, the property values plummeted and their properties got destroyed by non-caring tenants. Many of them regretted that easy money.

The landlords will get paid off to not do it.
Areas like gardere have a few property owners. Just like where I own property it's a few guys that have most of the dwellings. king Holden will buy them off.
When the rest of BR looks like Detroit or Plank Road, airline hwy between Florida blvd & Plank Road, and Florida blvd east don't blame the people that wanted st George. Blame the elite BR high parents who don't want their over priced school taken away from them.
St George will not just be white and people that think that are stupid. Florida blvd East, gardere, areas off oneal, and areas off staring lane have majority manority populations. Everyone deserves good schools if at George becomes a reality not just the BR high elite.

You are calling him butt-hurt? That's rich. He made several good points. Notice St. George is still pushing for incorporation without its "toys." The City has cherry picked what it wants and leaves Gardere in the hands of EBRSO.

I am fully aware. Smart guy. You don't think the city could find a few landowners to petition if that was the agenda? Or do you think the city isn't interested in taking care of the city? Let the parish handle that part...we'll just take the Casino next door.
