Having no viable SF on the entire roster

That is a really inexcusable flaw.
To not have a single viable SF with size on the entire roster is pretty amazing. We just will not be able to beat the teams with Lebron, Durant, Carmelo etc consistently. Tyreke looked like a midget out there, and sometimes we even had Eric Gordon on Lebron.
The small ball lineup will work against some teams, and it can work in the future...if you have one viable SF on the roster that can either come off the bench or start versus certain teams.
I was worried about it all summer, and this game just amplified it.

Demps has failed on that part

When Dell went all in for Evans, he pretty much created this situation. Gordon wasn't going anywhere and our glaring holes were SF and C, but he brought in another combo guard making big money.
Evans is a solid player, but a bad pickup for those reasons. Maybe next year. Until then, we'll just be a flawed team surviving off of AD's superstardom.

There's a grand total of 1 SF (Kawhi Leonard) in the NBA I'd trust 1 on 1 against those players, and maybe 2-3 I'd count as serviceable. I'd much rather guard elite players with very good guards who can keep up and hound them while dribbling than your basic run of the mill SF. We got our hands on a bunch of balls last night from Lebron.
The difference maker in last night's game wasn't Lebron, it was Kyrie Irving and to a much lesser extent the officials in the second half. When Irving got going, that opened it for Love. When Love got going, we were overwhelmed by the talent and shooting of their big 3.
Size is so massively overrated guarding these guys. Look at Salmons last night. He's prototypical height/length and he looked awful. Give me speed on the perimeter that makes these guys uncomfortable getting to their spots. Gordon should be guarding the other team's best 2/3 every night.
This exact thinking lost us the game last night imo or at the very least blew our chance to finish at the end.
ETA: A huge chunk of Bron's points in the 2nd half came from fast breaks, blown assignments, and the zebras. There's no one in the NBA that's going to guard Lebron 1v1 in the open floor. That's not a personnel problem.

Darius Miller could have helped but he just had a baby. If I wasn't afraid of Monty overusing Aminu, keeping him around for the minimum to play in games like this would have been good.

This is what bugs me about all the Tyreke lovers on here. They refuse to take into account what that signing cost us.
We'd have been way better off with an Ariza and Morrow and future cap flexibility than we are with the current logjam of overpaid 2's.
You can survive 1 horrible contract (Gordon) and still compete. You can survive 1 horrible contract (Gordon) and another overpaid starter (Holiday) and compete. But you can't survive Gordon, Holiday, AND Evans which creates the current roster problems. It's fixable once we can move one, but we'll never be better than a 5th seed until time allows us to be.

Someone pointed it out in the game thread I think the problem isn't stopping LeBron, it's being so short on solution for LeBron that you put Jrue on him leaving Kyrie to go off. Having a more viable SF, which we hopefully will get by next year, would have made a difference. Maybe not as big of an effect as Asik but getting a legit 3 and D SF will definitely be a "whole is greater than the sum of its parts" situation.

Read the Tyreke signing thread. I got crushed for having this opinion. Made no sense at the time.
But we have him. If they could get rid of Gordon it would be fine. But they can't.

Exactly. Having SOMETHING would be better than literally nothing.
I certainly didn't want Aminu back, but I also thought we would have a plan for SF. We don't.

The commentators that offseason saw it coming though.

AD will be an over the hill 23 to start the 2016-2017 season, we're doomed
Also, there is only 1 horrible contract on this team. Tyreke is playing as well as Hayward and Parsons who just got deals costing 35% more per year. He is producing and very tradeable unlike Gordon. And if he could figure out how to get his finishing rate closer to his career average, he'd probably be playing at an All Star level. But let's go all in on depth while AD is still 21 rather than trying to find the right starters to put next to him.

Why did Dell let Casspi go? I mean, he's not great, but he's better than nothing...

D-Miller would have definitely helped on Lebron, but Evans did a pretty decent job all night until the third quarter when he went off and Evans wasn't even guarding him for a lot of that time. I would rather Monty play Evans for his offensive contributions than have Aminu out there doing maybe a slightly better job but he is such a liability on offense. When you play against Lebron you can only ask a defender to contain him and Evans did this for most of the game until our defense was so spread out because of Love and Kyrie going insane that Lebron would have Jrue on him or somebody else and he could post up and get around. +1 to Leonard being the only good defender for him.

No idea, but I remember reports saying that Casspi wouldn't play for us.

Monty has been making a big stink since the end of last year about being tired of teaching young guys how to play. "Corporate Knowledge" is a phrase that has been used multiple times this offseason and is why they stuck with Miller and Babbitt and signed Salmons rather than going after some guys that were younger and perhaps more talented. Dell certainly could have said "Monty's crazy, I'm going to sign a SF with potential and he'll thank me later." so I don't want to put this all on Monty, but this does seem to be the result of a thin SF market and Monty being tired of dealing with non veterans that don't know his system.

Yep. Anderson needs a big wing who can fill in his rebounding and defensive gaps. If they want to play him in crunch time, the guards have to step up on the glass.
Demps chose a 6th big and a 6th combo guard (only one of whom is over 6'4") over getting any wing help. That is baffling to me. I get that there weren't a ton of options, but if you're taking fliers on guys, why not take one on players that offer different skills than what you already have? Skill overlap, certainly in the back court, is a problem in the players Demps targets.

We all said it before the year, they should have picked up somebody. I think Dell thought that Salmons had a little left in the tank. Or that Miller would come around. That just hasn't worked out. He needs to make a move. It's really early in the season, so there is still plenty of time..

McNamara pointed out a few days ago that Khris Middleton got benched in Milwaukee and didn't seem happy about it. I don't know much about him other than he's a popular "if only we could trade for this guy" candidate.

I don't know his game as I never see the Bucks play. Here's what Hoopshype says:
