You would think if guns cause crime that record gun sales would cause record crime...

The FBI released Crime in the United States, 2013 today, which shows that the estimated number of violent crimes in 2013 decreased 4.4 percent when compared with 2012 figures, and the estimated number of property crimes decreased 4.1 percent. There were an estimated 1,163,146 violent crimes reported to law enforcement last year, along with an estimated 8,632,512 property crimes.
The crime statistics report, issued by the Bureau’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, contains voluntarily submitted data from 18,415 city, county, state, tribal, campus, and federal law enforcement agencies on specific crimes brought to their attention. They include the violent crimes of murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, and the property crimes of burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson.

Buy the gun control fanatics will say "but think how much lower it would be with gun control legislation".

This a tired argument that FACTS curb stomp every time it comes up.

Well, wouldn't we all be better off if the money spent on GUNS were spent on bouquets of flowers instead and handed out to the people that are disadvantaged and disenfranchised?
Flowers for Friendship...Potpourri for Peace
much better than Hunker with Handguns!!!

If the government started a program to give every employed tax paying citizen a gun for their home, those stats would drop another 50%.
Up to date on taxes
working
no felonies
Mandatory IN DEPTH gun safety training
PROFIT...way less crimes and way less need for high police budgets.

Our citizens truly need to read “Tracts, concerning the ancient and only true legal means of national defence, by a free militia” by Granville Sharp. Gives a very good picture of what the obligations were of the citizenry in regards to policing and the military. Everyone was required (required) to own a gun and assist society. Now we have given that responsibility over to "professionalized" forces and the results are predictable.

Was watching Good Morning America this morning (wife likes it, I think they're liberal twits) and they had a story on how to protect your home from invaders. Some chick was saying to put a huge dog bowl and leash by the door, and get this, have something by the door inside that can be used as a weapon, like a huge candlestick holder.
God forbid that anyone have a scary gun to protect themselves!

Gun homicides have been going down since the Brady Bill was passed. Go figure.
Guns aren't the primary issue. Keeping them in the hands of responsible gun owners' hands is.

do you think more gun restrictions is the answer?

while teh timing may have a correlation, Congress commissioned a study that showed the brady bill had no effects
pretty much all crime started falling in the mid-90s, after a dramatic rise starting in the mid-80s (but it had been increasing since the 70s). there are multiple theories for this all (and the popular "abortion" theory has been pretty much debunked, SO DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT)

I think Obama's presidency has been incredible for gun and ammo sales.

I can meet you in the middle on this. How do you propose doing it?

How? Legal guns are not the issue.
