What a joke. Sometimes this place kills me.
Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors has a website. Go there.
I would recommend an inspector that has a construction background of some sort prior to becoming an inspector. Do your research.
C'mon man... sure there are some knowledgeable inspectors, but a sizable percentage like to throw out bullshite code requirements they misinterpret or don't fully understand.

And a sizable percentage of the message board posters on the Internet like to throw out bullshite knowledge as fact instead of opinion.
Just to play devils advocate.

I just sold my house and the inspector the purchaser used was bad arse. He looked at EVERYTHING. He found stuff I didn't know about. Can't remember his name though. Sorry

I have had code inspectors in two separate Parishes interpret the same code in different ways.
Just had an ordeal with one inspector trying to make me do something that wasn't code simply because that's how he thought it should be done. It was going to cost me an extra $400 and served no purpose. I fought it and won but at the expense that I am sure this guy will nail me on other shite in the future.

Khary Stevens. Just had him inspect a house I bought in Geismar about a month ago. I walked around with him while he did it and he pointed things out to me and told me what I should get fixed before closing, how to fix some things myself and what probably wasn't that significant. Nice guy and very knowledgeable and detailed. He got the report to me the same day. I would use him again in a heartbeat.
ETA: I used to work in the home improvement industry and this guy was finding things I would have never seen. For example, he got in the attic and commented on the fact that there was still string hanging from the support beams. That is apparently a good sign because it means the carpentry crew cared that their work looked good and was square and what have you. I would have never known. He apparently worked in construction for like a decade or 2 before going into inspections.

Do you really think it doesn't happen?

So what's the point?
I've only bought one house, so my knowledge is really limited here. But if there were major foundation issues, that would come up. Also the things they found did take around 15k off the price I paid on the house. So it was worth it in that sense.
I knew I was buying an old(ish) house with old problems. But none of the expensive problems I've had with the house came up in inspection.

Frank Messina with Inspection Connection does a thorough job, has 20+ years of A/C experience and over 3500 inspections in the BR area.
