re: Your weapon of choice for Zombie Apocalypse

Essentially, you would want something that is long lasting, multipurpose, quiet.
Most of the time I would avoid the zombies unless necessary. Even when engaging, the best weapon is using your mind to create a plan or course of action that would have the least amount of risk, just like Guerrilla warfare.
I think going in the street with a AK 47 and with a gung-ho personality will get you killed within 3 days.

I'm wanting to avoid the hordes
but that will never happen, you're going to find yourself in the horde situation, and you'll need a rifle or an "assault" shotgun
I'm assuming we're talking about your weapon of choice from the get go, because you can make a melee weapon out of almost anything (if it isn't already a melee weapon)and that pisses me off during horror movies, oh no Jennifer Lawrence don't pick up that perfectly good hammer...oh no Courtney cox, just ignore that humongous fricking axe behind you

also it really depends on where you start as well, anything urban or suburban, give me the rifle no questions asked

True, but why would they bother me for a mace when they could take your arsenal?

I'm just saying my goal is to be the Bear Jew of the Zombie Apocalypse. I'd have a small guerrilla team around me, and I'd specialize in the club, and executing zombies and rival human hoards in that manner.

OMLandmark,
you just have to practice the quick strike/pull back technique and that will prevent it from sticking. Or go with stabbing in the face/forehead whenever possible.

the only way I'll take a gun over machete is if there's a lot of humans around me.

This would be my approach as well. Attracting less attention and retaining the ability to stay mobile is the best long-term strategy.

why not just shoot the idiot clutching his mace and take his supplies...

Because your own team would snap your fricking neck for revealing y'all's position to nearby zombies and possibly even more dangerous humans.

machetes are very useful, there is just no world where I choose it over a projectile weapon
or give me a suppressor
or give me a suppressor

If I get two weapons, I would also want a crossbow to hunt with.

that's what the suppressor is for
and no one is snapping my neck while I'm carrying the goods

I really think the trigger happy people will go largely in the second wave. They'll likely survive the first, but when the hordes are out in their peak and constantly alerting them and rival humans to their presence. Even with a suppressor, smart humans will be able to track you down and slit your throat in your sleep.

I'm not going Rambo, I don't even want full auto...But you must have it or you're fricked
you see it in the WD, the melee weapons are everywhere or easily fashioned...firearms aren't just lying around. There's a reason rick still keeps that fricking hand cannon on his hip

But the suppressor merely scatters the noise. The zombies will still start looking for you, and may just happen to come across you. But the humans will begin actively tracking you at that point, and if they're ridiculously violent, then your team is fricked.

Along with a samurai sword

The shafts will splinter on the arrows soon enough, especially with rough usage. Trapping will be the most efficient form of hunting, and most big game will spoil before you can eat all of it unless you're in a large group. Squirrels, rabbits, varmint, and certain types of fowl, even snakes would become the common staples of meat for most people. My second weapon would be either a side arm to use sparingly if running into some bad dudes or a tactical entrenchment tool.

Honestly, I'm not running around shooting at will and of course you'll use stealth anytime you can, but a bat with barbed wire or even worse...mace...that isn't as important as having a high capacity firearm (any firearm really) on you
