Wow - I couldn't disagree more.
AJ is the one without the "it" factor. There's no energy in the huddle. When Harris is on the field, you can just feel the energy level and confidence pick up.
Any average QB can do what AJ does, which isn't much. Harris is clearly our long-term guy, and I don't understand sitting him. We're not going to beat good teams with the offense under AJ - but Harris gives us a chance at moving the ball through the air.
Yes, he wet the bed against Auburn, but does that mean he sits the bench the rest of the year? How does that help him?
And oh by the way, it's not as if AJ is a senior who'll be gone in a few more games. This QB issue will be around next year ... and the next. Better to solve it now, and that means playing Harris.

In our last two games, AJ has had 17 completions for 230 yards. Without bashing him, I think almost any qb in D1 right now could do that

Touché.
But I think it's still pretty apparent, that at a minimum, AJ knows the play book better. And that's huge in a loud arse stadium on a Saturday night.
But I'm still looking for an answer to my original question from the folks that say we should not worry about this year and start BH over AJ simply to get experience. (Yes, I know some think hes better right now....or that he could easily do the same job...again, this post isn't for you).

But he has not show it yet in a game and apparently does not play noticeably better than AJ at practice.
What???
With the exception of Auburn (and I'm not counting the one pick against KY), Harris has played very well. So I'm not at all understanding your statement that Harris hasn't shown much during games. I think he clearly has, that's what has the Rant so worked up.

I think Harris is better now, but doubt he see the field much the rest of the year. Just my opinion.
That goes back to my original question in the thread: If Harris is better now (which presumably means he gives the better chance to win), why isn't the coaching staff starting him? They evaluate it differently than you? They don't want the best chance of winning? They are just trying to make you mad? Something else? I'm genuinely curious as to why you think they wouldn't start the better player.

The IT factor doesn't exist.

Or it's bye bye Brandon. If you seriously think that Harris is going to wait around until his senior year because Miles has a JJ 2.0 infatuation, think again.

The best answer is somewhere between starting and going in for garbage snaps at the end. BH may very well not be ready for the former, but the latter doesn't seem to really built a lot of confidence either.

Its Harris and his potential being greater than AJ that has many worked up. Almost everyone agrees the future seems to be Harris. The argument is winning now vs Reps for Harris. And putting Harris in no matter how he performs and can this hurt him(performs poorly) going into the future.
The last thing any one wanted heading into this year was not having a clear cut QB. And its what we have right now.

Another question for you or anyone who cares to answer: At what point would you have brought Harris in in the Kentucky game? And how long would you have left him in say if he did excellent, if he did mediocre or if he did bad?
I would have had a schedule to bring him in say in the 3rd series or so. And if he was outplaying AJ, then stick with him. If he shits the bed, pull him out. Like I said it's not ideal but I think it's the reality of the situation
Most importantly to me, I want the same standards for both QBs. If you suck, you get pulled. Plain and simple

I really would have thought he would have gotten in earlier. Was definitely puzzling how out of hand that game was, and he didn't get in sooner.

I direct your question to the coaching staff. It puzzles me to be sure. I want to avoid any comparisons to previous situations because they are not necessarily relevant. Harris looks to me to be more talented, but maybe there are other things the coaches see/have that persuade them to play AJ.

I am fine with the coaches playing either player, but I think Harris should be playing at least some every game, preferably with a scripted series or two and the option to use him in obvious passing situations.
Regarding BH's poor performance against Auburn: (1) he did actually lead a scoring drive, which is something AJ did not do, and (2) was it any worse than AJ's play against NM State? I guess what many of us don't understand is how Jennings seems to have won the job without being very productive.

It's pretty easy guys. We have 2 losses. Miles wants the guy in there that he can trust to do what he wants him to do, and he believes that guy is Jennings. He wants to try and work the game so that his QB does not HAVE to put the team on his back.
He is trying to protect both guys from having to do too much.
Jennings has done what he has been asked the past 2 games, and it looks like the rest of the team, particularly the defense, is closer to where it needs to be that he can take some chances.
Harris is a young kid, he will get his chance. But the coach doesn't think he is ready to play a full game at the moment, so he won't.

doesn't coach Miles owe it to the seniors on this team and the fans to play for this season?
I don't think that's mutually exclusive. Putting in a QB the defense didn't prep for (at least not as much), especially if you use plays they didn't prep for, can make it easier to win games.
That said, I have no problem with Jennings starting. I didn't agree with playing the whole game against Florida though. Harris should have also entered the Kentucky game earlier, in my opinion.

Serious question, are you counting Jennings's pucks against him? Because for all the "he stares down his receivers!" talk, that is exactly what Harris did on that play against UK, and the safety made him pay. And you know what, he will learn from it and will be a better player from that experience. He will be a better player to learn from AJs mistakes as well.
He is lucky to have someone in front of him this year so he doesn't go in there every week to learn on the fly.
This sort of risk aversion the coach has shown in his QB decisions is why our bad seasons are 7-9 win seasons, and we arent ever the laughing stock of the conference.

The "it" factor? Yeah, that's what is missing.

Having said that though...doesn't coach Miles owe it to the seniors on this team and the fans to play for this season? You dont know what next year will bring. Wouldn't it be a slap in the face to guys who have busted their butts for 4 and 5 years to just tell them this year we're going to take our lumps so that next year we MAY be better? How would you feel if you were that senior? If you were a parent of that senior? Why is it not ok to win for them today?
If Jennings really was adding something to the equation, this would be a legitimate consideration. But, let's not pretend that we are running a wide open offense with Jennings. It is very scaled back as a result of his shortcomings.
The truth is that we will be underdogs in the remaining games. And, there is legitimate concern that if we don't invest in Harris now, then we are going to be in the same place next year. Sorry, that that concern outweighs the remainder of this year.

Harris needs to clearly win the job in the spring, it's too late for it now, he showed against Auburn he is not ready! PERIOD!
