If you only want big snappers and logger heads using big hooks and baits will help some.

Just get this one LINK and let me know when you get ready to set it. There's a right way to set it, then there is the best way to set it.

I use a 1/0 worm hook baited with plain old breakfast bacon. I set the baited hook right at the edge of the water where minnows, small bream, etc. can't get to it. I attach the baited hook to a 3 foot length of very small diameter aluminum wire attached to a piece of rebar stuck in the ground. You can actually see the bacon grease disperse immediately when you put the baited hook in the water. Snappers can't resist that breakfast bacon.

I use an empty water bottle, fishing line about 16" in length and hook.
Cut some bream up and bait
When bottle is moving....you got your turtle.
I've caught 3 snapper head this way.

Sounds like a great way to catch a dog.

Trapping them is your best bet...... either by turtle trap or hoop net.

Cleaning out the freezer and threw a few hunks of old wild boar on the hooks. Caught a smaller snapper in about 5 mins. May be on to something.

Even though this is a Pond Life thread, and I'm a master trapper.. I will leave this one for my Cajun brethren

Good. Got a beer can or a pocket knife for a scale? Looks like a throw back.

He was a throw back. I was kind enough to fight the hook out the angry shits mouth. Lil dummy immediately hit another line.
