Jamey Johnson will be country's savior. But between him and Eric Church it is a two man army taking on all the Justin Moore, Florida Georgia Line, Luke Bryan and all the rest.

Country music died back in the 70s.

I like some 80s and 90s country
hell George Strait was after the 70s

I was never a country music fan, but I liked some Garth Brooks stuff. The only artists right now whom I occasionally like are Zach Brown Band and Brad Paisley.

Luke Bryan probed the depths of the subconscious with his masterpiece "Play It Again":
quote:
She was sittin' all alone over on the tailgate Tan legs swingin' by a Georgia plate I was lookin' for her boyfriend Thinkin', no way she ain't got one Soon as I sat down I was fallin' in love Tryin' to pour a little sugar in her Dixie cup Talkin' over the speakers in the back of that truck She jumped up and cut me off She was like, oh my God, this is my song I've been listenin' to the radio all night long Sittin' 'round waitin' for it to come on and here it is She was like, come here boy, I wanna dance 'Fore I said a word, she was takin' my hand Spinnin' me around 'til it faded out And she gave me a kiss And she said, play it again, play it again, play it again And I said, play it again, play it again, play it again

nashville pop is dumbed down meat head laundry list music marketed to teenage girls and low hanging fruit rednecks. it's basically the same 30 writers that write all of the songs you hear on mainstream radio.

I wonder what bumblefrick in Nashville is writing these songs, cashing in several times a month but contemplating suicide when hearing their work on the radio.
I'd rather die like Townes van Zandt than deal with that kind of misery.

country's savior.
mainstream country cannot be "saved". it's watered down pop music with hip hop beats and a fiddle.

The mixtape's got a little Hank, little Drake A little something bumping, thump, thumping on the wheel ride The mix in our drink's a little stronger than you think So get a grip, take a sip of that feel right The truck's jacked up, flatbed's flipped back Yeah, you can find us where the party's at This is how we roll We hanging round singing out everything on the radio We light it up with our hands up This is how we roll This is how we do We're burning down the night shooting bullets at the moon, baby This is how we roll Yeah, baby, this is how we roll We rollin' into town With nothing else to do we take another lap around Yeah, holler at your boy if you need a ride If you roll with me, yeah, you know we rollin' high Up on them 37 Nittos, windows tinted hard to see though How fresh my baby is in the shotgun seat, oh Them kisses are for me though, automatic like a free throw

Shakespeare couldn't have said it any better than that.

I was thinking about this yesterday as I was listening to the 90's country station while pulling weeds. What happened to the story telling that used to drive country music?

Like Bryan's "Shake It For Me Girl":
quote:
Got a little boom in my big truck Gonna open up the doors and turn it up Gonna stomp my boots in the Georgia mud Gonna watch you make me fall in love Get up on the hood of my daddy's tractor Up on the tool box, it don't matter Down on the tailgate, girl I can't wait To watch you do your thing Shake it for the young bucks sittin' in the honky-tonks For the rednecks rockin' 'til the break of dawn For the DJ spinnin' that country song Come on, come on, come on Shake it for the birds, shake it for the bees Shake it for the catfish swimming down deep in the creek For the crickets and the critters and the squirrels Shake it to the moon, shake it for me girl, aww

Just to offset the terrible lyrics posted, I'm going to post one of the best country/folk songs ever written.
quote:
My heart's in the ice house come hill or come valley
Like a long ago Sunday when I walked through the alley
On a cold winter's morning to a church house
Just to shovel some snow.
I heard sirens on the train track howl naked gettin' nuder,
An altar boy's been hit by a local commuter
Just from walking with his back turned
To the train that was coming so slow.
You can gaze out the window get mad and get madder,
Throw your hands in the air, say "What does it matter?"
But it don't do no good to get angry,
So help me I know
For a heart stained in anger grows weak and grows bitter.
You become your own prisoner as you watch yourself sit there
Wrapped up in a trap of your very own
Chain of sorrow.
I been brought down to zero, pulled out and put back there.
I sat on a park bench, kissed the girl with the black hair
And my head shouted down to my heart
"You better look out below!"
Hey, it ain't such a long drop don't stammer don't stutter
From the diamonds in the sidewalk to the dirt in the gutter
And you carry those bruises
To remind you wherever you go.

Well...stop
I like the songs "Sweet Amy" and "It's All Right", hate most everything else. Brad Paisley has a sense of humor and doesn't take himself seriously, so he's ok in my book. He has like 3 joke songs for every serious one, so that's alright.

Eric Church and Kenny Chesney are the only country artists I like

lots of good "country" music exists, it's just not on FM radio.
