Smackover, Just curious.Have you ever taken Suboxone?
Nope. But I have had to use it for treatment of opiate addiction and understand the pharmacology of the med. Psychological addiction is different from physical addiction. And yes, if someone were to be "hooked" on something...much better a med they can get legally without having to malinger and mislead healthcare professionals than an opiate. Now if someone is on a high dose of suboxone and suddenly quits, they'll feel bad. That's why I said a gradual wean down under an experienced physician is required. I do not rx it personally btw. I have to refer out here in Arkansas. Yet another example of BS regulation. I can rx the med a person gets hooked on, but not the one to get them off. But it is coming out (at least a very similar form) in a diet pill I can rx without any special designations and can even sample.
ETA-just the naloxone is in the diet pill. Not the buprenorphine. It can be habit forming and is controlled but does not stimulate your "pleasure" receptors the way a opiate does.

My aunt asked me to call around being a nurse. Son is a meth head. I would say this x 100.
My cousin is a total turd and never went. It is pricey. But just talking to the person on the phone was night and day difference. Spoke to their intake supervisor on weekends who had to be a house supervisor. She would have sat there and talked to me all morning had I not ran out of questions.

and talk to you about local treatment centers.
The only friends of mine that were finally treated succesfully went out of town and state. There were other factors, but getting a change of scenery on top of getting away from the influences and even their family was a huge factor in them cleaning up.

In my experience with family members local just helped make new contacts.Out of town helped when they were ready.

I've got an old friend (feels more like an acquaintance now. I need to mend that) who cleaned up in one in BR. I'll see if I can find out.
I cleaned up 16 yrs ago. He has to want it. What brought your family to this point? Was his experience tragic enough to elicit change?
Asking these questions so u think about it. You've got to prepare yourself to not give up on him if this doesn't work.

Teen Challenge in NO has done wonders for a friend of mine

When I was young (about 16-22) I had addiction problems and I honestly just grew out of it. It was as simple as just realizing I had to stop being a dumbass!
Hope your son has the same experience. Sorry to hear it. I know it's as hard as it gets on you and your family.

Palmetto, bring him up here. They will clean him up.
I don't post, but this is the truth. It's costly, but you'll leave a better, changed person. It's one of the best facilities in the country.

Take him way out of town.
This shouldnt be a question, keeping him in a place where he knows people isnt gonna work...

Definitely. A friend went through similar thing, moved to a different part of MI for a summer, but really helped him out big time.

If you are doing this to get him out of teouble, it won't work. If he is all in and decided he WANTED help, then you have a shot.
Seriously, it's a waste of time and money if he isn't asking for help.
What's the substance of his addiction?

I do not have any recs for treatment centers but I have the highest respect for you sir. While it is all up to your son now, you being there is the difference maker.

There are just too many unknown factors for me to make a good recommendation here. Depending on your child's age the idea that they "are not ready" may or may not be a roadblock to recovery. And the drug of choice also plays a big role in what I would tell you.
If your kid has just been fricking up on a bad run for a couple of months you might just need to calm down and go speak with a couple of counselors. You can call Hidalgo Health Associates in Baton Rouge for a meeting and they will assess the situation and give some options.
I recommend against Townsend. It is pretty much a suboxone clinic. If you decide on treatment you want a 12 step based program.
As for inpatient, Woodlake in Ethel is owned by Randy Gomez, but Dr. Cataldie is the medical director and their addiction guru, Dr. Tommy Estis is brilliant. They are going through some major staffing changes though. It is primarily young patients with opiate addictions. They don't advertise this fact but it is essentially a 45 day program.
Palmetto is recognized as one of the best treatment centers in the country. It is a 90 day program and they have many older professionals as patients. From what I understand the medical board and state bar highly recommend it to their members that are in trouble.
As length of treatment goes up, so do success rates. A 30 day program has much less success than even a 45 day program. A 90 day program has more than double the success of 45.

I wouldn't be surprised if the kid got caught with a joint.
