i'm curious to know what they think their money helps with involving stopping trafficking rings
stopping this terrible shite requires pure force. as a society we give agency to the police to use force to combat these problems.

Yeah...but now what am I supposed to do with 17 pubescent Guatemalans?
I think Jameis Winston had the answer to that the other day.

I posted this exact same thing on my FB the day I saw that stupid billboard. Somebody needs to hire a marketing firm. It was put up by a NPO with NPO funds. Those run on a skeleton budget made up of donations and grants. Complete waste of funding. Because I'd wager that not one single person has been saved from a life of servitude by that billboard. Are we talking about it? Yep. And so now what? Are we all going to be on the lookout for sex slaves in the hood? No. Awareness does nothing but ease the collective's need for a narcissistic sense of involvement. It's intended to raise our ire and call us to action. But, that rarely happens, especially a) with things that people are already aware of and b) with things that don't personally affect the intended audience. I've volunteered for years for a certain organization. Because I am passionate about the issue I serve because I am personally affected and hope to change things in some small way. I don't, however, have anything to do with walks, fundraisers, and whatnot. I''m very wary of many NPOs and would like to see your budget and mission statement before I go throwing time and funds at you. Not because I don't think they're on the up and up, but because 9/10 funds are wasted in ways like this that will make absolutely zero impact for the cause.

Stop going to some of these sketchy happy ending massage parlors.

It's called raising awareness for those that are unaware. Would you prefer another "Truck accident? Let us help YOU!!' billboard instead?

I know its a funny sign and all, but a lot of idiots on this board think prostitution is ok and harmless and everyone is willing participant. they have no idea how much human trafficking is involved in that "harmless" profession.

this is a classic case of government action protecting the cartels, just like the war on drugs
prostitution would not have nearly the same number of sex slaves if we made prostitution legal. sex slaves are a function of government action

I love you to death, SFP, but I'm not sure I agree with you on this one. fricked up people will still want to have sex with children, and that will cause the market in child sex slaves to remain. Acreboy wouldn't be satisfied in a rub & tug with girls of legal age.

So consensual sex for an agreed upon term is "not okay", even if both parties are above the age of consent?

I always thought it had something to do with the traffic on the new bridge

It depends on where the money is going. I donated the last couple of years to a couple different organizations. One gave the city of Atlanta a check for 50,000 to create a special training program and eventually a division of the police force that is specifically trained to battle sex trafficking. I actually saw the check handed over.
The other was an organization that created safe houses for children that are rescued from slavery. Provides them a home with a bed, clothes, food, etc....
Money can make a lot of difference if you know where it's going. You're just hell bent on being a cynical know it all.

Because frankly, before seeing this, I thought Human Trafficking was on the up and up. Thankfully this billboard has shown me the light.
Maybe next they'll come out with "Cooking Babies in pies: it's not okay."
Or
"Poisoning the water supply: it's not okay."
Who in the world thinks these ridiculous signs are a good use of money?
Awareness fixes all problems. Kind of like how sports teams spend thousands on pink uniforms and hats and sweat bands and cured breast cancer without spending a dime on treatment or research...oh wait...

specially in forms most people might not associate with human trafficking. It is usually a lot more subtle than 16 Thai girls in a rape van.

Forced prostitution, forced labor, trafficking for organs, debt bondage, domestic servitude. I don't know what you're asking but those are the "types" I guess.

Agreed, and I also didn't realize until last week that beating my wife and kids was frowned upon in some circles. Who knew?

The money, if given to the right outreach programs can help.. They house, feed, detox (both those addicts by choice and some not) and reboot victims. These women are trapped not necessarily by chains but through mental/physical actions of their "pimp". These women aren't free agents in the sex market.
