Will Bain Step Up?

I watched his play pretty close when I re-watched the ULM game. He seems really slow off the ball and had a tendency to come off the ball to high. With his size I was really hoping he would catch on faster for added depth during the SEC season.

No not that Bain the other one.

I think Bain and Herron are going to end up being pretty good players for us in the future. I was hoping it would be this season but obviously Christian, Godchaux, and Q. Thomas are the main ones getting reps. I would love for another one to step up and give quality reps but I don't think that's gonna happen this year.
Gilmore on the other hand has been disappointing. He seems very slow and not explosive at contact. Hopefully I'm wrong and he's still adjusting to the college level but we'll need either Bain, Herron or Gilmore to come in at some point during this season. Hopefully they can get it all together and create some more depth.

Bain and Gilmore both need to step it up big time. They're going to get mauled by SEC guards playing like they have been. It's kinda sad that they are behind Godchaux.

The short answer is, no. When you are passed on the depth chart by an undersized freshman that is coming off an ACL rehab, your prospects for the future are not that great.
I was told by someone inside the program last year that the staff was very disappointed in both Gilmore and Bain.
I said that repeatedly last year and was blasted every time.
In the end, while they certainly have time to improve, I think they simply lack the talent of past (and future) LSU lineman that the fan base has become accustomed to.

Herron should be the fourth guy in the rotation based on spring and preseason performance. If so, that's four good guys to rotate against the teams that run HUNH offenses and get off a lot of snaps.

Perhaps the 3 red shirt freshman DTs are slow developers, but we need at least one and hopefully two to step up soon.
Three DTs playing all the snaps in big games is scary and none are dominant by any means at this point. I didn't notice Neal playing last week but he is under weight by even our lighter quicker standards for a DT.
In 2011 we played 5 to 6 DTs in every big game and this doesn't count garbage time and unfortunately 4 or
5 of them were better than anybody we have currently at DT.

Wait till Moffitt gets hold of em

If he didn't show out against Sam Houston and ULM, I doubt he has a coming out party against an SEC team. Let's just hope Lacouture, Godchaux, and Thomas hold up on their end.

This unfortunately is where we are. LSU has missed on the recruiting of stud lineman on both sides the past few years. We have gotten one or two but not like we did in years past and it is catching up.

I don't get why DTs aren't lining up at LSU's door, especially this year.

They should have been Moffittized by now. But I guess it may take time for DTs. We really needed Valentine this year and it looks like that was a snafu. Could've really used Gerald Willis too. But eh.
I think when we face the power run teams our LBs are going to save our asses.

Those guys were highly ranked on the recruiting trails, so I don't know what to make of it. Overated or not coached up? Bain's technique was terribile the little while he was in there. It almost looked like he didn't want to put forth the effort because the game was almost over. If that' the case he'll never be a contributor.

he looks like a 3rd string guy right now. I think he'll have a chance to be a role player next year

Gilmore was a huge recruit, as was Pocic. The star ratings have been there, the immediate production has not. Linemen can be extremely hard to evaluate, and weak competition can hide a lot. Our most highly drafted DTs in recent years have been sleeper recruits from Texas that few other schools offered.

True, we've missed on some talent lately though. fricking Saban.

LSU has missed on a lot of big recruits in the last few years at key positions. When you couple that with NFL attrition, you have a recipe for disaster.
One of the other inflaming issues is that we have missed on recruits that have ended up at competing schools. You not only loss their potential contribution - you have to face them as well.
I hate to even say it, but LSU has the feel of the late 1990-early 2000s UTenn. They were still recruiting at a high level but NFL attrition and competitors upping their game eventually took its toll.
I hope I am wrong about that though.

He's had plenty of time with them. However, maybe they need more. I remember an interview Moffitt did with 104.5 last year (maybe this Spring even) where he said they "were not fit enough to play a single series in the SEC."

Bama has exactly 0 players on their DL that they took from us.
