I watched this video and truly have never seen anything like that before. SNL should make characters based on these guys a regular skit.

Now that we are 5 pages in and I have given it some thought, I agree with the post about needing to see what happened before.
Is anyone even positive this guy stole anything?
It's like someone said in the YouTube comments, I don't want WM Security making decisions on my criminal guilt or innocence. For all we know these guys rolled up on this guy hard from the start and he told them to pound sand knowing he hadn't stolen anything.
Like someone else said, if I am not doing anything and two guys start choking me out, I would probably stab them too. I think we can all agree that the two WM Yahoo's were out of hand regardless of how much of a scumbag (or not) that the other guy was being.

Really? They have no legal right to detain him

thought it was illegal for security to follow out into a parking lot

they never should have tried to physically restrain the guy in the first place.
That is against the law.
This is just from the first few posts on the 1st page

Yes in Louisiana they do anyway. I posted a link a page or 2 back.
Which is great and all for Louisiana, but the original video that was posted on liveleak says it was in Canada.

I was wrong.
It's still stupid and they shouldn't be able to assault people they suspect of shoplifting

One day you'll learn to not question me.

See my above statement. But again I think you are giving the shithead thief a pass. He is the one that should shoulder the blame for the incident. Had a bystander pulled out a gun a shot him when he was stabbing those guys it would have been a justified shoot.
I'm not giving the thief a pass. I'm blaming some second rate mall cops for needlessly escalating violence.

How did they escalate violence? By grabbing the guy?
Posted on 9/2/14 at 4:43 pm to Who Me
In the first few seconds of video we hear an ensuing struggle and see two non-uniformed dudes grabbing and punching at a guy.
I don't know about you but if someone who isn't an officer of the law starts assaulting me I'm gonna fight back.
Look at the body language of the two. They WANTED it to escalate.
Do you follow the instructions of
ANYONE who claims authority over you?
I have a serious distrust of and zero respect for bottom tier pretend security guards who act like they are damn Blackwater mercs.
I seriously doubt they calmly approached the suspect and clearly identified themselves while providing documentation.

Wrong.
A security guard has the general authority to detain someone if there is probable cause that shoplifting has occurred. However, this authority has some limitations. Any time a security guard stops a shopper, it must be for a reasonable time, and must be done in a reasonable manner.

Should of never got to that point.
Walmart changed their LP policy after one of their dumbass LP guys killed someone in Georgia in like 2010. They are really only allowed to physically restrain people in defensive situations to back out of the altercation.
The guy is outside of the store already and they aren't even trying to de-escalate the situation. Walmart will dump these guys and make them find their own representation.

I think you are assuming a lot that no one could know by watching that short video.
They starting punching when the guy started biting.
You are acting like they just attacked the guy with out trying to talk to the guy or identify themselves. Maybe they did maybe they didn't. How would you know?

this.
while we cant tell from the video whether the guy a) is guilty of thievery, or b)who took what action that led to the brute force dipshit stand up wrestling routine, we can almost certainly take away from this that the actions taken by the LPs couldve gotten themselves or others seriously hurt or killed.
imagine a CC holder getting manhandled like that. people could have died and for what? some cds and a bottle of preperation H he was too embarassed to take to the register? not fricking worth it bro.

I may be wrong on this, but from everything I have seen, the security guard must see the person steal something, not just probable cause..

I agree that this is very likely from my experience with Walmart.

In canada?
Do you really think these sorts of people (look at their body language and actions) used restraint?
Or do you think it more likely they decided to form tackle the guy and use as much force as they could.

None of us do. I'm speculating because I'm bored at work and it's fun. But I feel reasonably confident in that these were likely all Canadian white trash with more boogers than brains who wanted to act out their latest call of duty fantasy.
And when you have these sorts of people in positions of pretend authority, they like to push it to the limit.
