They lost two defensive linemen from what I recall as being a thin defensive line to start with. Is that why we were able to run the ball in the second half?
As the announcers said, the Tigers ran the ball at their two replacements … with some success.
Tough shite. We won.

they did run the ball all the way through the 3rd quarter. the difference what that LSU started not allowing 6-7 yrd gashes on every touch. Wisc ended up in 3rd and long situations, finally, and had no choice but to start passing
oh and frick you

It's hard to continue running when you lose 2-3 yards on your first down run and are facing 2nd and 13 and 3rd and 8. Even with a mediocre QB for Wisconsin we still win that game. If they had a good QB and good WR's probably not, but how many teams have an elite QB, WR, RB, and OL?

I don't agree with this.
Wisconsin's coaches didn't just up and decide "ya know what, since we can run the ball at will on them, we'll now throw it at will on them."
what happened is that other than the long run on the 2nd half's first play from scrimmage, Wisconsin's running game was stopped. Thus, they had to try and throw.
In the first half, Wisconsin was chewing off big bites of yardage on 1st down. That stopped in the second half. Because it did, they were forced to throw.

This should be a huge signal to Les Miles, open the game up early

Cam?
LOL at you if you think Les Miles isn't all up in the offense. Does Jimbo Fisher's offense at Fla. State resemble the LSU @ Auburn attack in 2006? Does Gary Crowton's offense elsewhere look like what we saw here (but maybe that was a good thing ), Coach Stud, Coach Cam... it's all the same.
One constant.
I do fully admit that one constant has accumulated a ton of victories, but most those victories have not been the result of good offenses.

A shorter summary:
We didn't figure out Wisconsin was one-dimensional on offense until the 2nd half.
We didn't figure out we were two-dimensional on offense until the 2nd half.

I don't know how you can say that. It's possible, of course, but if they had moved the ball on offense at all after their first 2nd half drive, it would have been very difficult for us to mount a comeback. I assume that a decent QB would have had a much better chance of moving the ball.

Who said anything about elite?
All good teams will have QBs that can put the ball in the general vicinity of their receivers. That dude was beyond terrible. How many times did his attempts land in the middle of nowhere?
I don't remember whether we were putting a lot of pressure on him. If we were, that could have caused all of those mis-throws.

Possibly, but the few times Gordon did get the ball in the 2nd half he did not do much

I rewatched the game last night and I agree. The defense actually played pretty well in the first half except for a few missed assignments that Wisky made us pay dearly for. Kwon in particular had a rough time in the first half but in the second, he started filling the correct holes and played great. It was a huge turnaround.
There was a point at which we could have taken all the momentum early after the Dural TD and then we stopped them deep in their own end of the field. Tre returned the punt to the Wisc 35 but there was a block in the back penalty. Still we started in great field position but that drive went nowhere. If we could have scored a TD on that drive, it's 14-10 and we're rolling.
Favorite point in the game was after the Diarse TD, the camera is showing the crowd celebrating and an empty beer cup floats up into the frame and then falls back down.

This is an incredibly talented team and they are very fast. If LSU can fix just a few things, they blow Wisconsin out.
Agree, but not sure about "blowing out" Wisconsin - some coach on the LSU sideline seems to stick with a single Offensive game plan for a bit too long.

This is going to be an excellent team once they all get on the same page
I totally agree. I re-watched the game, mainly the second half. This team has the potential to be great.

All LSU needs is better Defensive Line play. Rasco and Godchaux played well, QT played average, and Hunter and CL played soft and clumsy. If Herron, Neal and Bain come back to provide depth and more talent, then I will be encouraged. We won't know until Moo State though.
Godchaux was the best of the DTs and he's a freshmen. He will be a beast by the end of the year if he remains healthy.
LSU also simplified it's offensive line run blocking scheme because Pocic was having trouble with the NT shifts/slants and couldn't complete combo blocks on running plays. In the second half He starts releasing to the second level immediately and allowing the NT from UW to slant himself out of the play instead of trying to run after him and allow the LB to run free. Of course it was the 2nd team NT in the second half so that helped, but better scheme also played a role.
Iron this crap out and LSU will improve quickly. Only major concern for me is interior Dline play and Hunter needs better balance and technique.

Hunter needs to play contain on the edge and LBs need to fill the gaps. Lots of breakdowns there. But, that is Defense 101 and should be fixed.

yep, he was over pursuing it seemed like.
hopefully LSU gets the right LB'ers on the field

Yep, Hunter and Kwon screwed up on a few outside runs. Either in the same gap or Kwon didn't even bother playing the run. I think as they get more understanding and trusting of the defense, it will get better. Hunter needs to keep his feet and pursue harder rather than trying to make every tackle behind the line of scrimmage. If they got outside of him he seemed to just dive on the ground or trip or something.
My biggest concern is DT. I hope we learn from this and play better technique and get a little more aggressive with penetrating through the gaps with DTs.

Because our DB's had some of the best coverage on their receivers I had ever seen. That QB was bad and missed terribly on some throws. On a few other one's he had some decent throws that were either knocked away or intercepted. It would have taken an elite QB to throw those particular receivers open against our secondary. If the receivers AND the QB were above average players, they would have won the game and also every other game this season with that OL and RB duo.
