People like to point out that whites commit basically the same number of murders as blacks (2,823 for whites vs. 2,895 for blacks, in 2011), but those people usually neglect that blacks make up a much lower percentage of the population (78% white, 13% black).
SIAP, Same logic on the Faux News program today. Wallace showed a graphic where Ferguson is 67% black, with only 3 black policemen, and 82% of all moving violations are given to blacks. In a perfect world, blacks in Ferguson would be getting 67% of the tickets, right? Is 15% more of the tickets such a gross racial pogrom?
No, it's not.

It follows that tickets (or arrests) for crimes are also not proportional to the racial distribution of the population.

Now, re: the Ferguson police force, I agree that more should be done to ensure that the racial makeup of the force is more representative of the community. There is an obvious disparity in Ferguson.

Have you seen any stats on how many (if any) blacks have applied to be police officers in Ferguson?

Maybe we're saying the same thing. If all crimes were proportional to race, Ferguson blacks would be getting 67% of the tickets, therefore when Ferguson blacks get 82%, it's not the statistical big deal some would see.
That's where there's a bone of contention. One can conclude:
1) Blacks commit more crimes per capita,
2) Police fixate on catching blacks instead of whites,
3) Blacks are not lucky,smart/rich enough to get away with their crimes,
4) Greater percentage of blacks are lower class, and lower class people are more likely to be criminal,
5) All of these and probably many others.

Crime is directly related to socio-economic status. Therefore one can expect the Black and Hispanic crime rate to be higher than the national average and the Jewish and Asian crime rate to be lower than the national average.

Cool, you pick #4, which is perfectly valid. Others may pick the other choices. You can pick the other choices and play around with them statistically however you want and get an audience somewhere.

Regardless of the underlying reason for blacks, per capita, committing crimes at a much higher rate, the fact that they do should not be ignored, as it very commonly is (particularly among liberals). Socio-economic status almost certainly plays a role, though all we know for sure is that socio-economic status is correlated with crime; not that there is a causative relationship.

True, TF. And I can remember hearing Obama say (paraphrase)..."yeah, they (rich folk) believe in non-violence...because they've got theirs"...and my jaw dropped! Like violence is legit to equalize economic status. Classic Marxist.
I just wonder how many of the plain folk catch those little windows into the mind of our dear leader. Wonder how many of the Ferguson rioters heard it, and it sunk in.

. . .
As I said before, correlation =/= causation.

I think it would be more constructive if you provided the direct quote rather than paraphrased.

Ask and ye shall receive:
". I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but rich people are all for nonviolence. Why wouldn’t they be? They’ve got what they want. They want to make sure people don’t take their stuff."

Low socio-economic status is an indirect indicator of parenting, which I feel is the #1 predictor of the future success of a child. What money does is give 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th chances to kids who were no-good punks when they young. Usually, high socio-economic status goes hand and hand with good parenting, but there are exceptions, such as Paris Hilton, who would be hanging out on a street corner or working in strip bar if her derelict Dad wasn't born rich.
