D-line depth- what's the problem?

I keep seeing this get mentioned, but I feel we are really deep on the line, just no stars or studs---yet.
De has rasco, hunter, Neal, bowers, Clark, and maclin that can all contribute. We are slightly thin on proven players here, but there is some talent.
DT has lacouture, Thomas, Bain, Gilmore, Herron, godchaux, and Johnson. That is loaded with talent if you ask me.
So, why do people keep saying dline is thin?

Unproven is probably the better term. I think our defense will be nasty this year. They will have to be, bc I don't see the offense being able to lead the way to victories like last year.

Because they are using the wrong word. We are inexperienced, not thin.

We have two lockdown cbs. That makes a lot of positions look better than they are. I expect big things from Herron.

We have plenty of guys who good be really good, or not, we are just unproven. Hopefully they reach their potential, but it does make me nervous

Nothing wrong with the depth.

The 'yet' part is the problem until proven otherwise. You compete for SEC titles with quality, not just quantity.

Neal has been moved to a hybrid DT role I think and we also have MJ Patterson who I think will be a beast. Our d-line is all very young with some veterans who haven't played much at all (Maclin, Mickey). It doesn't concern me much at all and it shouldn't concern tiger fans.

Depth is only meaningful is it's quality depth. If we have a lot of guys, but they aren't good, then it doesn't mean much.
You say that DT is "loaded with talent." Maybe loaded with "potential", but those guys haven't proven themselves.
So I'm concerned, very concerned.

I agree with you. Bain is gonna be a monster.

Agreed. I've always seen the DT spots as an incredibly difficult position to dominate in because they seem to be asked to do multiple things at once. I remembe3r guys like Brockers and Dorsey would pin their ears back and get penetration to disrupt the QB but when the RB would get the ball they would put a mitt on hhim and take him down right then and there. Nobody did that last year and it showed.
I still feel pretty good about the DL as a whole but I also expect to see guys rise out of the crowd over the coarse of the first half of the season. The starting spots will find those couple of guys who just lock down the trenches and then they will go to the NFL and I will scream DAMNITT again!
