Agree.

In the '80s people thought that the US was a great country getting better and that their lives were on an upward trajectory.

Today the zeitgeist is that we live in a country past its peak, going through a slow, sad decline. Average wages are DOWN something like 25% relative to 10 years ago. If you have a job, you're pretty much stuck in whatever low wage position you currently hold forever. 1/3 of the population is on some form of welfare.

I'd prefer to live in a perpetual 1980s for the optimism alone. There hasn't been good news in America for a decade.
