He's just saying that it's easy to run 5 miles in less than an hour because most people whether your in shape or not can at least run an 11 minute mile.
Gotcha

Most people can't bike 25 miles in an hour.

Swimming by a mile.
A standard triathlon or half ironman includes a 1.2 mile swim, a 13.1 mile run, and a 56 mile bike.
I don't think the average in shape person could swim a mile.

The running is harder than the biking. Sure it's not tough to run an 11 minute mile pace, but run constantly for five miles, nearly an hour. Those that don't run and aren't conditioned will be wiped out after running 5 miles. Especially in the summer time.
Swimming is way harder. You can't really rest, unless you hang on the side of the pool each lap.
Biking you can coast some.

I doubt very seriously if the majority of "folks in shape" can ride 25 in under an hour. So, no, cycling is not a "distant" third....

From hardest to easiest-
Swim
Bike
Run
I cycle a lot, average 20-22 in a group. I've never averaged 25 for an entire hour. Like others have said, that is pro level shite right there.
The run is much simpler unless you are really out of shape. 12 min miles? Does even belong in the same grouping.

Agreed. if you can ride a bike at 25 mph for an hour straight, you are elite.
if you can swim a full mile, then you are close to elite.
a 5 mile elite run I would consider under 30 minutes.
this isn't an apples to apples comparison

Swimming a mile
I can run and bike that but idk if I could make it a mile without holding on to the side of the pool.

25 mile/hour on a bike is extremely tough to do. It's by far the hardest feat you listed and it's not even remotely close. I'm saying this as somebody that's done ironman triathlons.

What's a decent time for 5 miles? Is anything under 40 minutes acceptable?
Posted on 8/10/14 at 4:06 pm to East Coast Band
Swimming a mile is easy
Easily running 5 miles would be the hardest

An average, middle of the pack triathlete would swim one mile in 25-30 min. Run 5 miles in 35-40 and ride 25 miles in 1:05-1:10.
Anybody could learn to swim 1mi in an hour in a week or two
Most anybody could run 5 mi in an hour. That's a glorified walk. Very few people who spend years training can make the 25 mi in an hour. That's cat2 cycling speed.

A decent 5 mile for the average Joe is about a 9 minute mile pace, or 45 minutes.

The answer depends on the intensity at each is done.
That being said, there are probably less than 5 people on this board who can ride 25 miles in an hour.
The correct answer is stop being a pussy and do all three.

I think people are underestimating 25 miles on a bike. That's some tour de france shite.
You're joking right?
Swimming is the correct answer here. If you stop swimming you drown, you're swimming non stop for at least 45-55 min.
Biking or running you can slow down, walk, stop peddling, etc to rest. There isn't any resting while you're swimming 1 mile in open water.

If I had to rank all three activites, and they HAD to be completed in an hour it would be
Bike - by far the hardest to complete in an hour
Swim - most avg people can swim an hour straight, so that would put it an easy #2
run - you can find fatties in every local 5k or 10k running an 11 minute pace

25 miles in an hour is much different than 25 miles

Not if you have an hour to complete the workout
