Sempra Energy secures loans for Cameron Parish project
Sempra Energy and its partners are expected to pull the trigger next week on building a proposed $10 billion liquefied natural gas export facility in Cameron Parish, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Cameron LNG has secured $7.5 billion in loans for the project, which will ship natural gas to Japan. The facility will be able to ship 13.1 million tons of LNG per year, and Japanese firms have already agreed to buy 8.8 million tons of production. LNG has become an important fuel source for Japan since the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear-power disaster.
The Sempra plant in Cameron Parish is expected to create 3,000 construction jobs and 140 full-time jobs and bring $10 billion in development to the economy of Southwest Louisiana.

Damn, our state is kicking arse.
Cheap natural gas is a great thing.

I must say I have mixed feelings about these export projects. I've enjoyed my low gas bills these past several winters.

They will hardly move the needle. There is so many PNP gas wells in the US it's not even funny.
We just need to build more rigs to punch the holes.
ETA: and keep liberals (I'm looking at you) from making idiotic legislative moves against tracking.

What's so bad about tracking?

My take, FWIW.
Countries around the world see that Ukraine and Western Europe are dependent on Russian natural gas. Putin has them by the balls because he can turn off the heat in January. So they are locking in a stable supply from a politically reliable and trustworthy source, the US.

That doesn't look like it should cost $10b.

Exactly.

I worked a lot on the Golden Pass project out in Port Arthur about 7-8 years go. They are huge facilities, and huge labor forces are needed to construct them. I think the original part of Cameron was built around that time.

Wow... this is on top of the $12 billion LNG facility that Cheniere has been building there

CB&I may go belly up before it's finished, though. Odds are Turner will have to take over the project at some point to finish it.
