re: Are younger voters ripe to be converted to Libertarianism?

Example two: Birth control. Younger women want the "freedom" to control their own bodies, yet favor the government to compel employers (or the taxpayer) to pay for their birth control.
In the end, the younger generation invariably turns to government to solve their problems (which are often of their own making), which is hardly libertarian.
Yeah just look at these young idiots wanting the gov't to take care of them. Damn entitled generation.

The problem is the younger voters think they should be given a job making 6 figures right out of college.
Also that liberal arts degree you got is not worth shite in the real world.
I'm not sure where you are developing this line of thinking, but I literally know not one person that thinks like this. And yes, I am considered a "younger voter".

And if they don't? See the lawsuit in Colorado about pot smoking by the Dish Network employee.

I think the generalities some of the posters here are making are coming from preconceived notions coupled with a news story they saw or read somewhere. I doubt they actually interact with many young people.

I honestly don't think so. If it were to happen it would need a legitimate groundswell movement. Unfortunately I think it is held back by the perception(or maybe reality) that libertarians are very condescending.

That doesn't hold back the democratic party

It's a terrible shame that in order to vote for the party of small government, you have to also be voting for these religious lunatics.
umm no, to vote Libertarian you do not have to vote for religious lunatics, there is no other "party of small govt".

The New York Times seems to think that the generation growing up today that will vote for the first time in a presidential election in 2016 has a good chance of leaning conservative
Probably slightly more than most generations. Nate Silver correlated each birth cohort's political leanings with the President's approval rating on their 18th birthday. Makes a difference of a few percentage points.
In Obama's case, the voters born in the late 1990s have no memory of Clinton, and they weren't really paying attention to politics during the Bush administration. So their political memory will be the mediocre economy under Obama. They'll also (if they're paying attention) be aware that Obama put the Bush civil liberties abuses on steroids and that will make a further negative impression of Democrats.

If more of them knew what a libertarian actually was, they would definitely be. Most young people think that way already(well all of the ones I know). I haven't met any democrats that had enough sense to tell me why they are actually democrats. Main reason is that they hate republicans

No, younger voters are more likely to be democrats.

The young are dumb. Politicians already taking advantage of this weakness in society. It's too late.

el oh el... maybe if there were jobs to be had, the young generation would work. But then again the oldies had to take the greatest nation to have ever been on this earth and run it into the ground because they never properly learned how to pay for stuff that you want. you know wanting something now and not wanting to work for it. and really i doubt they ever learned the true definition of freedom.
but but but, it's all Obama's fault! I read a chain email the other day that explained how he was really the one responsible for the economic crisis we're still recovering from!!!

6 God damned years, economy is still shite unless you actually like working part-time, numbers would be even shittier without Texas, which doesn't do a God damned thing economically that he espouses
