Just noticed I have several 'tos violations' on gdrive. This includes crap apks I've dumped on there for my various phones I've gotten from XDA, etc.
I'm a little creeped out at how Google is crawling through my personal cloud files and determining they are not appropriate.
What's next? They going to remove the new Lana Del Rey music because I uploaded it a week before the album was released.
No sir. I don't like it. I don't like it one bit.

I think that's one of the ways Apple and Microsoft stay in the game and no single company gets dominant marketshare. Google's business model is completely dependent not only on knowing as much about you as possible, but using as much of that information as possible. Apple/Microsoft/Amazon only want that information to sell you more of their products, not to package you for resale to 3rd parties.

Assuming you're speaking of a Google drive and not an actual personal cloud drive mapped to the letter "g," I don't find it even a little bit surprising. Be careful what you call "personal" when it's sitting on someone else's servers. "Your" cloud isn't yours, not by a longshot. I use these services quite infrequently and am careful about the material I upload to it for these reasons. Consider creating your own, personal FTP.

I've railed against the cloud in the past due this exact reason.
Now I've gotten lazy and my worst fears are realized.
Personal ftp sounds messy and expensive and not very feature rich. I've managed my own iis servers in the past so I know what a pita this is if you want to run if from your own PC.
Grr.

Are the files shared? I know they check those for malware and possibly copyrighted stuff, but as far as I know they don't check files that aren't shared (except for maybe forms, which may be automatically checked for phishing concerns?).

Are the files shared?
I have 4 android phones with 4 different Google accounts and the shared drive was working so well in the beginning....

You're probably right there. Consider, then, a high-ish end (consumer, not business) VPN router if your devices allow for such connections in conjunction with a "home server" (in quotes because you can just use any windows computer and do some pretty decent fileshares for access purposes). Your uplink, of course, will be your limiting factor.

Thanks Comcast for my crappy upload speed.
I had the whole free dynamic DNS and iis running locally and I gave it all up to go to the cloud.
The more things change...

Get a router that has a USB port and connect an external hard drive to it.

Western Digital sells a personal cloud drive that comes complete with mobile apps to let you host your own cloud LINK

did you read the TOS (Terms of Service prior to using Google Drive? Is the file you have there a violation of those Terms of Service?

I actually reread it this morning but I honestly can't tell how storing apk files violates it.
Eta does anyone else know? Maybe the issue is that XDA developers release free versions of apps to other members that cost money in the play store our maybe Google is worried that sharing apk files in general is a no no.
Just aggravating because I was only sharing these to avoid having to log into XDA on every phone I want to install them on and put up with the stupid 'wait 20 seconds for your download link' crap.

Sounds like just a blanket warning just to cover their arse. Did they say they would suspend your account unless you removed the files?
Honestly, what can you do? They give out a ton of free storage and the cost is that they get to poke around in it every once in a while.
I know that sounds apathetic an horrible but I'm finding it harder and harder for me to care about what google, MSFT and Apple see anymore.

See my comment above. I've been doing some googling today but can't figure out exactly what is or isn't acceptable.
you're right.. It's vague.

Ah...that makes sense. I bet this is it.
I'm wondering if they would do anything at all. On one hand, they don't want you pirating apps, on the other hand, they don't want you to stop using google services.

for the record, it just has a little yellow caution triangle next to it..and when you roll over it it says 'inappropriate item - sharing disabled'.
i understand XDA devs dont work for charity; but i'm pretty over all those 'wait 30 seconds for download to begin' hosting sites where all the ROMs & stuff are now.
that's the whole reason i started storing the good stuff on google drive.
guess i have to go for plan B now that i cant share it with all my phones.
eta i'm trying a new trick; change all the names to "blah_apk" and see if they can still figure it out..i bet they can. likely google is peeking into the archive itself.

You get free storage from Microsoft One Drive with a free outlook.com account. Maybe they are less snoopy.
