HOWEVER.. Cochran isn't worried:

From an initial review of the ballots, McDaniel’s campaign said last week they had found at least 4,900 voting irregularities.
quote:
"We don't have to have 6,700 [to move forward with a legal challenge], however, I would be surprised if we don't find 6,700," Tyner said. "If there are that many ineligible voters then it's already an automatically a new election."
quote:
Tyner said they wouldn’t know the results of the full review until later Monday night, but they planned to file a challenge to the election results first with the Mississippi Republican Party and then, 10 days later, in court. He added that the campaign doesn't believe it needs to find more illegitimate votes than Cochran's lead to launch a legal challenge.
HOWEVER.. Cochran isn't worried:
quote:
Cochran’s campaign fanned out across the state as well, dispatching representatives to all 82 courthouses to oversee the review of ballot boxes. Jordan Russell, Cochran’s spokesman, said the campaign has “been pleased with the results.”
“The county by county results reported thus far are revealing an extremely low number of crossover votes from the June 24th election. As the process moves forward, the conversation is shifting from wild, baseless accusations to hard facts,” said Russell. “As we have said from the beginning, the run-off results are clear: the majority of Mississippians voted for Senator Thad Cochran.”

How do they prove fraud with the absentee ballots? Yeah, I understand that people sell their votes this way. But, how do you prove it??

This McDaniel character sounds like a grade a douchebag... Hasn't every claim his campaign has made turned out to be a lie?

He is. But that wouldn't make any illegal votes valid.

He has more than an uphill battle to win a legal challenge.

If they voted for a Democrat in the first go round then voted for a republican that is illegal.
Cochran is the real scoundrel. Anyone that stoops to race baiting vs a fellow Republican is a POS.

So he isn't backing down from the establishment? He'd likely make a good senator.

Yes that's true but he has to show that enough voters really did that (and probably show who they voted for which will be almost impossible except for absentee ballots). My prediction is he won't win a court battle.

Sad times to be a Republican. Shite like this tells me they won't be back in the White House anytime soon. They just cannot work together like the Democrats.
I lean more Republican so it is sad to see the disorganization and split between Tea Party / RINOs / Libertarians.

The Republican Party just doesn't have an identity anymore.

Damn this board has done a complete 180 on McDanials in the past couple weeks

It would be easy to prove if it happened. Just have to do all the grunt work.
There's a record of who voted in the D primary. If he can find a sufficient number of those same voters who then voted in the R runoff, those votes are illegal. Doesn't matter if you can't prove they voted for Cochran--if enough ineligible voters participated in the R runoff, the result is invalid.
Of course, one of Haley's cronies will probably rule otherwise regardless of the evidence, but based on the facts and the law McDaniel would be entitled to a do-over if he finds enough ineligible voters.

Yeah really. I don't understand what McDaniel has done that is so wrong. There are tons of circumstantial evidence that the Cochran campaign when out of it's way to recruit additional voters and those voters appear to have broken primary rules. So I don't understand the push back on the McDaniel folks to find the truth.
If McDaniel finds irregularities and things are rectified though the courts, then great. If McDaniel doesn't find sufficient voting irregularities, then also great. If however it would be a travesty if the McDaniel camp did find irregularities and nothing was done about it. Maybe may posters on this board fear the latter because it would harm the GOP brand and it's just easier for McDaniel to bow out now instead of opening up that can of worms.

Regardless of side, why would EVERYONE not want voter fraud corrected. Has our society fallen so far that we want "our" side to win even if it compromises the process? Sad times.

I really don't know anything about him. I'm just going off of what I have read on here. He sounds like a huge whiney bitch. His camp has put out multiple stories about fraud that have all ended up being false and then he goes out begging for money with a stupid fricking letter.

It's more than the illegal voting issues.
Cochran reached out to democrats and encouraged them to vote in the Republican primary simply because he didn't like what the republicans in his state were about to tell him in the election.
He let the opposite party determine the primary results. That undermines the party itself.
I almost never support legal challenges to elections. But given the circumstances, I'd love to see another election.

the rino/moderate wing think anything that upsets the status quo is a travesty. They'd rather whore themselves out for "image" and attack the truth finders, meanwhile in Austin we have TB outbreaks, just don't upset the status quo ...

Well, exactly. The Cochran camp should be welcoming McDaniel's challenges. If there were no fraud then there's nothing to worry about. Furthermore if there is no fraud I expect a full humble concession out of the McDaniel camp to mend these political wounds and vise versa for the Cochran camp.
