Tablets for Kids

First, what are the OTs thoughts on this? I initially came here to ask recommendations as to what tablet to get, but figure I'm going to get more of opinions as how my kid is too young so I'll go ahead and invite that discussion. My son is 2 and he loves playing the different apps on my wife's iPhone and iPad. So we're considering getting him his own tablet to play with. Any suggestions? I know nothing about this, but the ones she was suggesting were Nabi2, Leapfrog, and Leappad Ultra. Thoughts?
Sorry, no pics of wife and I know. . .Android is better than Apple.

You'll get trashy responses no doubt but I would get an ipad with a good case meant for kids
The kids tablets are mostly overpriced junk

Steer clear of the leap frogs. The leap frog tablets are less expensive than an ipad or other tablet but you will pay the difference in games.

Just drop $800 so a 2 year old can play balloon pop

Gave my grandson a leapfrog 2. He plays on it and yet to bust it. 3 years old, but was 2 at the time when he got it.

We were gonna buy our nephew a leapfrog ultra. After researching it....not worth the money. The games and apps aren't the greatest and are pricey.
For the same price we just bought a kindle fire for him so that he could watch all his cartoons on Netflix. And his parents can use the kindle too when he's asleep(you can set up different accounts on it for adult vs a child). He loves it. We just got a good drop proof case for it(he's 3)

I didn't say get the top of the line ipad
But a 299 mini wouldn't be a bad option
Hell you can probably find them cheaper than that
Also the parents could get some use out of it when needed

Our 3 and 6 year old boys have an old ipad 1 that I had. Has a good leather case and is pretty indestructible. Use it to play angry birds, grumpy bears and one buzz light year matching game.
We also have amazon prime and netflix on it with kid based profiles so they can watch their shows. Spongebob gets a work out from the 3 year old.

Nabi 2 is the way to go. A ton of good games already on it and when your kids aren't playing you will want to

Our son has a Kurio 7S. It's about $150 and comes with the Google Play Store.

Yeah my kid loves amazon prime

we got a Kurio (not nubi) tablet. But when the kids would talk to friends, they soon found out that their tablets couldn't get the good games.
The tablets have a way of opening in Android, but they still block the play store. So I just rooted each of them and made them regular Jelly Bean Android tablets. Then gave them each a play account and set parental controls.
They love them now and actually use them daily as before they just sat around. The youngest asks, "How come Santa didn't give it to me already working right?"
The apples may be easier for them to pick up.
But the Androids are so much cheaper you really won't care in your pocketbook if they do destroy it.,

My sister in law sent us a video of our nephew singing "I love my kindle, kindle, kindle!" over and over

We got this one for our daughter when she was 3....
It's called Kurio and had a lot of good educational things for a preschooler and costs less than $100. She liked it and it's held up well. We still have it in fact. Now that she's older (she turns 6 this month) we've got her and her brother (he's 12) each an iPad mini.

There's another board if you don't want trashy replies.
Nextbook for $100 is a good one.
