Time line for deals related to Asik trade

Did I read somewhere that in order for the Asik deal to be officially completed, the pelican cap situation has to be in order by July 1?
If there isn't something in place to get the pels to that number in order to be able to bring in Asik......the pressure Demps must be feeling at this hour......
As the minutes to the deadline tick by, here's to hoping the probability of Dell reaching on something foolish doesn't increase.

I couldn't tell you exactly how that all works but I know that is not right

Ok. I'm wondering what the deadline is....

Not that this is the barometer to measure the details of this trade but on nba trade machine Asik is already on the Pelicans roster

I don't think there is a real deadline for the trade. I just know that we have to make other moves to make the numbers work beforehand.
I know teams can start talking to free agents on July 1st, but can't actually sign for a few days after. That may be where you heard that date.

So when does FA period officially begin. I mean it really has to be done by this point right? How can the rockets court bron, melo, etc. with Asik still not officially traded?

I gotcha. So in reality, July 1 is sort of an unofficial deadline I guess you could say.

July 1st is the beginning of free agency (players can talk to and negotiate with teams) , but players can't sign until the 8th or 10th (conflicting reports). Houston wants to be a big player in free agency this season, so basically the deal needs to be complete before July 8th (so that Houston knows what they are working with in regards to their cap number), or it may be compromised. The deal will be complete sometime this week.

Midnight ET on July 1st, so basically late Monday night. Last year's thread of the year was the FA thread about Tyreke that lasted for 3 days straight, literally, updates on rumors would happen all night long 24/7 for about 3 days.
As far as when the deals need to be completed, we have plenty of time. The Rockets probably aren't even going to trade Lin before getting a commitment from the big FA they target. So events can happen where by July 4th the Rockets have a commitment from Melo, and the trades that need to happen (Lin, Asik) may not even go through for several days after that. The only potential problem is if there aren't any actual deals in place to clear the necessary cap space. I would imagine Houston has several Lin deals lined up. As far as the Pelicans go, Demps is probably hoping after a few days of FA and teams with cap space missing out, he can get a better deal than he currently has. But if worse comes to worse, surely Orlando or Philly would take Rivers for free, which is all we really need to do to make the Asik deal work.
If you're concerned that the deal might fall apart, it won't, the real unanswered question is what we have to give up to make it happen, and we may not start getting a clearer picture of that until we are several days or more into the FA signing period. Again, I think Demps is waiting for some other moves to happen hoping they open up some opportunities that may not currently be available, like a Rondo trade (there were draft night rumors of us being part of a Rondo to Sac 3 team deal with Gordon and Rivers going to Boston).

Just trying to get a clearer picture of when we may get some actual news as far as deals related to the Asik trade. The ridiculous parsons rumor thread was a tipping point for me and prompted my starting this thread. followed the reke thread religiously. I'm constantly refreshing rumor pages. My productivity is zero when this stuff is going on.

You gonna start the FA thread?

Then the answer to your question is get as much work done as you can today and Monday, because you'll probably have a solid week of unproductiveness after that.

That's a young man's game. Hopefully another student used to staying up for days on end will step up like last year.

I would do it but my computer is screwed right now and I'm not doing that from my phone.

It probably won't be quite like that. We had one story to follow every whisper about last year. This year it will probably mean navigating a torrent of trade random rumors like we're doing now, they'll just be coming at a much faster pace.

The only thing that could cause that type of drama would be a Gordon trade rumor.

Pretty sure July 10 is the magic date.
