I am not an expert but you can get a good entry level AR for $550, add a scope for a coupe of hundred and decided what you like and not.
ARs are adult Legos, you will want to change it around...

I want a nice gun, but not the top of the line. I also looked at a Black Rain that was sweet, but it goes for $1,950 before you start adding the bling.

Good but not great = Colt, BCM, LMT, etc. All are much cheaper than what this one is going for.
I know this is a colt but I think someone posted a link for new ones going for $850 the other day.

Strongly consider for what purpose you are ultimately buying the gun for.
1. Fun at the range
2. SHTF staple firearm
I say that because the optic that you choose is so crucial for how you use it. A Colt 6920 is $1099.99 at Walmart when you can find one. You have just paid 800 bucks or so for a scope and their socom proprietary brand quad rail, right?
I think you can do better on the optic price and rail price and even end up with better optics/rail system. But you ARE saving on the cost of installing it yourself there.
Idk much, but that SOUNDS roughly accurate. I would price that rail system and the scope separately and then at 1099 to it and you'll see if that's a square deal.
Me personally, I got a red dot because I wanted quick target acquisition and later on I got a 3x magnifier so I could have an option at a longer than a 100 yard shot. :)

Colt and BCM are both great imho. Just over priced out of the box! compared to building it yourself.
you got the 1:7 twist with the colt and you have the bolt carrier group that can handle full auto. both pretty sweet non-standard options.

So I can build an AR for $500 again?

idk. i'd ask bapple. i'm still new-ish to the AR thing. all i know is that doing the full build, buying it piece by piece and assembling it yourself is "considerably" cheaper. (unless i'm missing the point of your post lol)

Idk... I just did a super quick Nikon 4x16 search and found one for the upper 300 range. Idk if it's the exact model on this purchase. i think that rail system is likely a troy rail, which can retail around the 150's... so 1099 + 350 + 150 = 1600 bucks, but then you add what a person would charge to professionally install the rail system.
i mean, you'll always pay a premium when you get all the bells and whistles conveniently placed on it. i would just strongly consider each bell and whistle and be sure it's something you want.
To the OP, you can do better for sure. But if you have the extra money and u know you like the scope et al, whatever. do your homework on what you could by those specific 2 parts for if you bought them independently. :)

DD makes some of the best rails out there. so you could prob assume that will cost around 200+ if you bought it independently.

You can find a DDm4 for $1600. A Nikon 4-16 is around $400. For $2000 you can have an even better rifle.

changing a rail is a joke, nobody would charge 300 bucks for that.
ripoff no matter which way you cut it
