ATL has a thread explaining it. He will start a 5 year max contract 2016/17.
Good to hear, need to go read it.
Why Anthony Davis will be a Pelican through at least the 2019-2020 season

8M (really 13.5M) for 10/10 with a block in 30 mpg.. it's borderline. Those are pretty much the same numbers Okafor was putting up here and he'll be making more than Okafor will in real dollars.. I guess its how you look at it..

I'm sure this has been discussed, but I don't have time to go reading thru the threads to find this. What happens if Asik doesn't re sign next year? This wasn't a sign and trade, was it? A potential one year rental is kinda risky, no?

Yep, just a one year rental. We'll get the space back though..

Raw numbers don't mean shite. Look at his rebound rates, he is a top 3 rebounder in the league. He is also a great defensive player. He is easily better than Okafor was as a Hornet.

The cap number is the only number that really matters as far as the team is concerned. Benson may care but I don't.

What?
You're basing this on stats?
I'm sure you know there's far more than that.

No, he isn't. I don't know where you are pulling numbers from, but he wouldn't have qualified this past season anyway since he missed almost half the season. If you are talking about the season before, maybe you are onto something. But I don't see guys lining up to honor Reggie Evans, who led the league in rebounding rate, so not sure all of that matters anyway..

I'm sure it does matter to Benson and it will make him less apt to spend come midseason if the team has a sudden need. The budget will be a little less loose..

If he can be resigned for $9 to $10M, that doesn't seem to be outrageous to me. The bottom line is that we had to get a legit 5 and Asik was the best available.

Number 2 behind drummond in 2013-14
His per 36 rebounding was 14.1
Reggie Evans is pretty much trash other than rebounding.

Asik is 2nd in rebound rate this year and 4th last year. It really doesn't matter.

Reggie Evans isn't 7' and plays elite defense

Agreed 100%
shite a year ago we would've had to have given up ryno to get him. Are people forgetting this?

Your reading comprehension just sucks. I'm sorry..
Yes, R. Evans led the league in rate in 12-13 LINK
I don't know how someone who misses 34 games qualifies for any category. Hollinger must use a different set of parameters, cause Asik doesn't qualify among the league leaders.
That's kind of what this board is all about..

Asik does everything well except for score points.
He's a workhorse who hustles constantly. He's a beast on the glass and can rebound as well as any player in the league. He's a rim-protector who is fantastic on defense. He's not going to block a ton of shots, but he makes players miss because he's physical and knows how to get in position to make opponents miss while not fouling.
He's also great at pick and roll defense. He's also great at setting solid screens to initiate the offense. He does a lot of little things.
Trust me, he isn't going to light up the stat sheet in anything except for rebounding, but you will definitely notice his impact on the game.
I still think Asik was the single most important player in terms of the Rockets getting to the playoffs last year when he was the starting center. If the Rockets didn't have Harden, they still could have scored a lot of points due to their style of play. But if they didn't have Asik, they wouldn't have stood a chance.
Next year, when you watch Asik play for the Pelicans, you will say to yourself "hmm.... so this is what PrimeTime Money was telling me about".

How is Asik at setting up the break? I loved watching Tyreke get a rebound and immediately start his patented one man fast breaks last year. If Asik is getting all the boards will we still have fast breaks?

Asik gets the board and finds the outlet man very quickly. Howard likes to grab it and casually find the outlet man. Asik grabs the board and gets it to him as fast as he can.
He'll even hurry up after made baskets and quickly step out and hurry it in to set up a break after a made basket.

This is a little off topic but the 1.5 million sent over in the proposed Asik deal... Can that be packaged with 3 million sent out with another NOLA deal for a net of 4.5 mill or is there a hard cap of 3 million that can only be sent out each season? Just curious

No, it used to be that you could send out $3 million per trade, but the new CBA limits you to $3 million per year. That's why we only got $1.5 million. Houston probably would have sent us $3 million under the old rules.
