I don't go to NOLA much and I certainly don't use the cabs, but I know those prices are bullshite.
We have so much regulation and still the cabs suck. From the dome to the quarter is like $7-8. But one day a cabbie decided to charge us $25.
He had the meter off, just wanted $25.
What a prick.
I don't mind Nawlins Cab, United and the blue one, but there are like 40 different companies and most suck arse.

Isnt Uber like a job placement company for these people? They can still advertise I guess, not sure the Uber rules.

$25 minimum would blow but I guess you have to start somewhere
ETA: I'm saying from experience of $20 cab rides to Lakeview from the city. I guess its overpriced if you are staying downtown. Catching a cab to take you to the suburbs in Nola is miserable

Good thing about uber though is you know you can get a ride. Getting a cab to lakeview or Gentilly is next to impossible.
Yeah, it's great to have cheaper cabs, but when those fricktards don't show up then it doesn't matter how cheap the fare would have been.

Up in DC right now, and whenever not enough drivers are on the road, they up the fare amount to entice more drivers to pick people up. For example, yesterday (and this was the only time it has happened to me in the last 5 weeks) my fare was 2x the normal rate. I had to accept it, or I could ask for a notification when the fares were reduced to normal. This could explain the fare differential in Boston, maybe they were super swamped or all their drivers were partying

Anyone on here going tomorrow? I would love an in-game thread to follow on this.
We have Uber here and it is awesome. They even just began Water Uber and a boat will bring people around for $10 each. Yet NOLA wants to charge a minimum of 3x that for a car. Such a great city with such a stupid mentality for growth.

New Orleans is in a boom and they want to go back to their petty politics instead of bringing competition in to make the place better. I find that Uber is usually a bit more but I will pay for the better quality. Maybe they should do something about their cab service that is so shitty people will pay these prices.

Taxi cab reform has been a hot issue here. I got into it with one driver not long ago. I kind of saw his point but at the same time I told him the cabs suck here. The fact he told me his cc machine didn't work as soon as I got in the cab won me the argument.
I would never use a taxi that cost $25. My rides average $13. $25 cab rides would increase the number of drunk drivers.

it cost me $10-$12 from downtown/quarter to my house. No way in hell I'm going to pay $25 for that short ride.

They are alway broke.
Our cabs are 3rd rate, and that's being kind.
The fact that the city can't see this and tries a half-assed attempt at "reform" speaks volumes.

$25 min ride
$75 airport min cos
So what happens when all the cab drivers in the city want to join Uber or related company to charge $25 minimums?
I know something like that is not likely, but couldn't every cab driver leave and then the city ends up with $25 minimum for everything?

cabbies don't want to endure the cost of meeting new regulations.

exactly. over-regulation of who can pick you up and drop you off in a vehicle is insane.
