RAM issues on macbook pro

GF's 15in 2008 Macbook pro keeps crashing, I replaced RAM as that was the symptom fix, yet, now it still crashed, it worked ok with just one RAM card but when we added two all the problem came back, I reinstalled OSX ran all the system tools, still crashed, and now still makes the 3 beep noise when shutting down which is supposed to be bad RAM warning, but I just replaced it all new.
I am at a loss, could this be a total mother board failure?
The RAM we bought were two 4 gigs, they were same brand, for the same mac yet when I looked at the visually they were not the same.

Are you sure you got the right RAM? Go to crucial.com and run a scan to see if it matches.

Use the same stick of RAM and try it in each slot and see if you still have the issue. Repeat with each stick of RAM.
It is possible that a slot on the motherboard could go bad.

Same thing happened to mine when it was still under warranty(2008). They had to replace the logic board.

Right after I asked you guys this, I told her to take out one ram card and try running on just one of the 4gig and it seems to be running fine, so I am assuming now the RAM I bought for her on Friday was bad, and the RAM we bought her yesterday is good.
They did look different, funny deal is I had a Best Buy geek look up the right ram on Friday and we picked out the RAM yesterday, so my guess is now still maybe logic board(her 2008 is not under any repair or warranty) or the RAM I bought on Friday was bad or one of her RAM slots is dirty or bad?

Not sure if this applies but I had a similar issues with my 2008 MBP. For some reason, that motherboard doesn't like to clock down the RAM to the speed it needs to be. I remember wanting to upgrade mine and I tried purchasing some from best buy. The speeds exceeded the recommended specs for that model. I ran into a lot of issues with it and, for a while, ran it with one old RAM chip and one new to get the speeds right. I ended up ordering RAM from macsales.com that was an exact match for the MBP I had. It worked well until I upgraded my computer.
