Need help with ground under kids fort

Put in a swing set/fort in November, swings with a tower. Under the tower is the "fort". It is completely enclosed and was grass. All the grass has died, and the ground is turning to hot mush. It's turning into mosquito breeding ground. What should I put down on the ground as cover? I was gonna put down some tarp or vid queen, but what goes over it? Board, bricks, paving stones?

Does it have drainage?

I remulch our playground every six months. 50 bags of black cedar mulch. Keeps out the weeds and no water accumulation.
I'd post a picture but I need to cut my grass baaaaad.

I built a border around mine with landscape timbers stacked two high then filled with the rubber mulch.

No water standing, but ground is very soggy... Much more so than the surrounding ground

This or a load of sand.

No sand if there are cats around. They treat it like a large cat box...

I would put a layer of sand and then bricks or pavers. Omce you lay the bricks or pavers put some sand and sweep it off to fill in between. Cheap and easy

Don't put pavers under a play set unless you really don't like your kids.

We have the same thing. We put down those heavy rubber mats from tracker supply, then sand. Worked out great.

I had same issue. Rubber mulch FTW

I went with a layer of sand, then pavers on top. (I went to Home Depot before checking the thread this am). The area is only 13 square feet, it's got 2-3 foot high walls all around and has a 5 ft ceiling, so it's not like they will be jumping or sliding onto the brick. I'm pleased with the finished product. Thanks for all the input. TD is always the first place I come with questions like these.
