My last book thread got 4 replies (and I think one of them was mine)

This makes 3 pages in about 20 minutes

Honestly man, Jefferson Parish Public Schools...

Sidebar, in another thread we were discussing Confederacy of Dunces. They said it's a must read, especially for NOLA natives. Is Huckleberry Finn > CoD?

Huck Finn is the gold standard in American literature, the Magna Carta.

If you don't like it, you can frick off, cuz I don't like you.

The sound and the fury. Not only is it my favorite Faulkner work, but it is my favorite all time novel.

It's a good one.

If you were intrigued by Quentin, you would like Absalom, Absalom!

I love sanctuary.

But Sound and the Fury is my favorite too...

One of my favorite literary characters. I was in Massachusetts a while ago, and found this on a river bridge:

CoD is the funniest fiction book there is. If I had to recommend one or the other, definitely CoD.

It's difficult to rank authors since style and individual tastes and sensibilities vary so greatly.

I'd say that the top tier consists of:

Mark Twain
William Faulkner
Ernest Hemingway
E.A. Poe
Tennessee Williams
John Steinbeck

I'd put Mark Twain at the top of that short list.

The actual quote is, the past isn't dead in the south, hell it isn't even the past.

Whether I believe the quotes or not, I always admire a person who has a gift for words.
