This.
That team was really REALLY good and they came out absolutely possessed. I can't imagine a team playing much better in that sort of environment with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.
At the end of the day the Saints took advantage of their mistakes, and that's why we're Champs but damn that Vikes team played out of their minds.

That's true, but those weren't just turnovers, most were true takeaways.

The Vikings had a great team that year, no doubt about it.

Also, if we play that game at Minnesota, I'm not sure we still get to Miami. I watched that replay a couple weeks ago too and it amazed me how Favre was fitting some passes in there.

I remember thinking the whole time that we were just barely hanging on from getting blown out. It's like we just sat up against the ropes and let them swing away only to knock them out at the last minute.

They were lucky to not have 7 turnovers. Peterson fumbled one 10-15 yards upfield and managed to outrun Shanle to it

Yeah it was pretty clear those hits took their toll on Favre. That was GWs MO from the start and even though those blitzes burned us a good bit, when those hits got there they were effective

It was a much better system in 09 when the corners were at the LOS

Disagree. At no point watching the game did I think anything other than the teams were evenly-matched.

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is really......it's not uncommon for there to be stats like these where the team with the most yds and all lost. We were clearly more efficient with the ball. The most important and telling stat is the turnover ratio.
Anyway, I remember it just being a great game....not one "dominated" by Minnesota.

Again... favorable field position to start the drive
the nfl change overtime rules after this game (favre rule) , and they did it for the wrong reason .the team that wins the coin toss in overtime wins ,not on the first possession , but on the second , so it is because of 'field position' .

Their D is what cost them and the turnovers
Probably because 480 beat Jared Allen's arse.

Back in the 60's and 70's they were my second favorite team.
The Superbowl where they lost to KC. I had to listen to the game on the radio. Freakin blackout.
I cried when they lost. The first and last time I cried over a game. Of course I was about 8 at the time.

yea, if you include Special Teams, they only outgained us by 80 yards despite 5 turnovers.
We had 3 possessions started in their territory (37, 7, and 30). That easily makes up for the difference.

Their lead was never more than 7 and ended with 10:30 to go in the 2nd quarter. The Saints never trailed in the 2nd half

I've been to a lot of football games, but this one was probably the most intense thrilling game I've ever attended.
As a comparison I've been to all 3 recent LSU National Championship games, every LSU-Bama game for the last 20yrs, and nothing even comes close to how hard hitting and intense this game was.

Perfect analogy.
That game was insane.

plus, didn't PT return the kickoff in overtime to like the Saints 40 yard line or so?
Set the offense up with good field position yet again.
Special Teams were solid all-around in the playoffs.
Return Punt for TD vs. Cardinals
Long Kickoff return by Roby vs. Vikings
Good kickoff return by PT vs. Vikings (help set up game winning drive).
Game winning field goal vs. Vikings
4-of-4 on field goals vs. Colts
Ballsy onside kick to start 2nd half of Super Bowl.
