Minnesota Dominated the 2010 NFC Championship Game Except for TO and Score

Was just looking something up and forgot how lopsided the NFC Championship Game was with the Vikings.
Minnesota had 475 yards to the Saints 257.
Brees passes for 189 and we rush for 68.
The Vikings have over 36 min TOP.
But, they turned the ball over 5 times to the Saints 1 and the Saints scored TDs when they had the opportunity instead of squandering it or settling for FGs.
The game seemed much more evenly matched than the stats indicated.
I guess that it is true that stats really are for losers.
I just forgot. Amazing how the Saints won with Brees throwing for under 200 yards.
Total stats here:

minnesota played their arse off. I also think the saints had a ton of pressure on them.

I agree with you but prepare to get blasted on this board.

Just a blessing they totally Favred it

There's a reason it's considered the worst loss in their history (or was when I was reading some of their boards/papers afterward). They gave that game away.

Yeah, I know. I only have ever seen the game when it happened. I was a mess and was pacing all over the house hanging on every play. So, I forgot a lot of how well Minnesota played and really just focused on the turnovers.
They were a really great team. Should make Saints fans feel even better.

That's what championship teams do

No doubt. Not taking anything away from the Saints. They capitalized and part of the reason for the lesser yards was the great field position off of the turnovers.
I am just saying that stats do not tell the whole story.

you know how we shot ourselves in the foot vs. 49ers defensively near the end and somewhat offensively with a billion turnovers?
well their offense shot themselves in the foot vs. us, horribly.

If we played the way Minnesota did and lost I don't think I could ever get over that

Yep. The SF loss in the Div. Playoffs was the worst loss that I can remember as a Saints fan because of how good that team was and how they would have been in the Dome the next week for a trip back to the Super Bowl. The Saints would have won then next week without doubt in my mind.
I have been a Saints fan since I was a little kid in the 80's and I never felt worse after a loss than the SF game. Ugh. Just thinking about it now makes me mad.

With Farve's finger on the trigger.

No. I will take the win and not feel the least bit bad about it.
Just an observation about how the score is all that matters.

quote:People say this but I disagree. We forced those turnovers and stole that game. It was by no means given to us, unless you count that last INT . And even then we were tied at that point with a long field goal try up coming for them.
They gave that game away.

well, if you remember, the Saints had a few kickoff returns cut a few scoring drives down.
Roby returned the 2nd half kickoff to like their 40 or 35 yard line. So the Saints were working with a short field on that drive. PT scored later on the drive giving us the 21-14 lead.
then PT took the kickoff in overtime and got to about the 40 yard of the Saints. Again... favorable field position to start the drive that sent us to the Bowl.
also, I think Peterson fumbled deep in Saints territory after the Vikings had a nice drive where they gained a good chunk of yards.
so there is that.

This is more important than stats.
Turnovers lead to better field position resulting in fewer total yards. It also effects play calling.
