Current Hard Rock/Metal

My guess is that most of this board doesn't partake in current hard rock music (i.e.: what's played on Octane). However, I'm cycling back around to it for the first time in a few years and I don't recognize many of the bands on the charts. Anyone have any suggestions of something decent, for the genre, to pick up?

What kind of metal? I mostly listen to older bands from the 80s and 90s. The last Anthrax album is really good. For something more modern I'd say Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Devildriver, Hatebreed, or Machinehead are all ok.

Check out The Sword. You wont be disappointed.

Ditto on The Sword.
I could name a bunch of other bands too. Somebody post the link to the Stoner topic. He can find just about anything there

-Black Label Society for your hard rock
-Lamb of God
-Killswitch Engage
-All That Remains (Overcome album and prior)
-Chimaira
-Trivium (older stuff)
-Shadows Fall
All are solid metal bands.
even the classics like Overkill and Testament are still putting out solid albums.

Buy their instrumental album YES, but other than that, they're garbage.
Progressive metal, I don't care what anyone on this board says, is the most enjoyable genre. The instrumentals are too notch and the singing is usually superb. That being said, some of the ones I'm fixing to list are instrumental and some just metal:
Intervals (Both)
Pomegranate Tiger (Instrumental)
Mandroid Echostar (Both)
Animals as Leaders (Instrumental)
Tesseract (both)
These are ALL very recent bands but I just thought I would run them by you just because a lot of these being listed are bands from older decades. These are also strictly prog. metal so remember that.

You might try KXM. More in the Hard Rock file than Metal. George Lynch, Doug Pinnick and Ray Luzier (Dokken, KingsX, Korn ).
Luzier is the youngest, and plays pretty gotdamn heroic.

On the contrary, almost none of them are.

Orange Goblin and Spiritual Beggars certainly fit that bill.

If you like Instrumentals
Russian Circles
Don Caballero
Karma to Burn
Dysrhythmia
Irepress
Pelican
red Sparrows
All those listed are of different style of Instrumentals and all fall into what I think you mean when you say Progressive.
