Has the proliferation of other boards hurt the OT?

I feel like TD has become so heavily compartmentalized that the OT has been reduced to gossip threads and NSFW rate threads.
I'd much rather talk music or food with you idiots than with the go-hards on the dedicated boards.
When you dedicate a specific subject to just one board it makes things super cereal for some folks on those boards and you don't get the general tom-foolery that once thrived in similar subjects on the OT.
Sigh... gonna spill some OE for the days done by.

I look at the OT as my front page. I know if something big or important goes down it will be here.

With the amount of posters and traffic TD gets daily now, this is a good thing and improves TD.
Do you really want movie/tv, food/drink, gaming, money, outdoor, political, music, threads and posters all on one board with the OT having its own threads, with all of those posters and traffic? Threads would be bumped off the first page so fast, it would be on the second page five seconds after you start it. It'd be like trying to cram 75% of reddit into one subreddit.

The selection of message boards is entirely random and follows zero logic. Topics that should have dedicated places of discussion, such as Science/Technology and Health/Fitness, are drowned out on the OT. Or, the threads are often adulterated with memes, trite jokes, and superficial comments.
Conversely, topics like Money and Soccer somehow have dedicated places for discussion, despite the fact that these are the two slowest non-utility boards on the site (by a significant margin).

I don't know much about the Music Board, but for the FDB there are a few go-hards, but if you take a look at the threads and posts, it's pretty much a lot more go-easy.
