Any OT ballers own a slingbox?

Been thinking about pulling the trigger on a slingbox 500. At one point I thought I may wanna splurge on MLB.tv but then I thought why blow $150 on a yearly deal when I could drop $300 on a one time purchase and watch the Bravos, any football game, or just TV.
So, anyone have it? Is it worth it? Does it destroy your data plan on your phone? Does the phone app work worth a shite? Have you ever been to a turkish prison?
Inquiring minds would like to know.

Slingbox is awesome. Takes about 20 minutes to set it up on your tv and phone total.

Is it super laggy when you're using it on your phone?

Depends on the connection. Usually the app was pretty good from what I remember. Be sure to get the HD version and keep in mind that it requires a dedicated TV at the location for use.
Good product IMO. We would use it to watch football games on campus using the LSU wifi. Worked great.

Luckily I have a DTV box that only I use so it wouldn't be a problem. I worry because I know it needs IR connectivity but we have another IR transmitter glued on the front of the box so idk if the two would interfere.
$300 is also a lot and another $15 for the app but I get the idea it'd be worth it in the end. Unless DTV goes full hopper but the genie app doesn't get braves or ESPN

I like that too. For christmas I got a generator and a sat dish but if I am in ATL for a game I can use clear and at UGA I can use their wifi (if my old login still works )

What internet do you have? I have the older slingbox hd. My quality dropped when I switched from cable to uverse. The upload speed is a big limiter I think and I struggle to get HD quality. Also, yes, it will absolutely chew through your data plan. Come any tournament or playoff time, my data plan usually approaches 10 gb. Good thing I'm unlimited

I always wondered how this would work at a tailgate to watch other games. Without WiFi, I would imagine it would destroy some data

I have one. Put it at my parents house in Nola.
Its an older model but works to watch CST on. I was using it for everything but have Direct TV and no living on an oil rig anymore.

I figure so
That said, during college we'd go to all the UGA road games and sunday's drive back usually had me using my dad's log in for DTV and we'd watch redzone the entire way back so my phone is used to it.

I'd probably put it at my parents house and they have the fastest speed Charter does. I know this because my mom is a programmer and is beyond proud of it. I also choose my parents house cause they have DTV with all the channels like the ballers they are. So maybe I'll be good.
Also luckily I was grandfathered into the AT&T unlimited data. All they usually do is if I go too far with my uploads they just slow down my data until end of the month. I was pissed they started doing that but I was going through it like crazy with all those drives home on Sundays.

Ahhh, nice. I kinda think it's a good idea for if one day I move out of GA I can leave it at my parents and still get Braves games.
It's a frivolous purchase, fully aware of that, but it just looks fantastic. Wish I had it during school for when I was in class. I feel like this could be great for tailgating and it'd be easier to set up than my portable dish.

Make sure you have a decent computer bc it can degrade the video quality if not

I've got a mac but I'd likely use it mostly on my iPhone when I wanna watch the bravos

Did they get them working with dtv boxes? Or was that TiVo that didnt work with the dtv box?

If you're buying the 500 because of its ability to use wifi and not just be hardwired, consider hardwiring it anyway (or looking at the 350, if it will suit you). It's possible that you can get enough bandwidth while you're not home using other devices, but we've got one directly plugged into a router that's acting as a wireless bridge across my parents' house. The quality can be decent, but it's prone to a lot more wishy-washiness than if it were/when it was plugged directly into a router.

They have worked with DTV boxes for years.

My parents have the house wired so all the boxes are in one room and hooked up to home automation. I am not sure where the router is in that room or if it has any open ethernet ports but that is a good point.

One of my better investments especially living abroad. I have watched more Saints games now vs. living in Houston.

I have one, its awesome. Except that I switched to uverse and I cant figure out how to connect it so therefore its collecting dust.

Well luckily we won't likely ever get Uverse so I'd be good. But I won't be getting SECN so idk, frick me I guess.
