Good Crawfish in Houston????

Moved to midtown this year. Every place I've been does that mess where they put Tony's and crap seasoning outside the shell.
Any recommendations on good crawfish or am I out of luck? The place yesterday was packed with everyone eating crawfish and had good reviews, but they sucked.

If by good you mean they don't dust, then no.

Cajun Stop in East Downtown.

Welcome to Texas. Been here over a year and you will not find the crawfish you're used to unless you have your own boil

Find a place that ships them or find a place in Houston that gets them shipped in and boil them yourself.

I could get over the dusting. Shells were hard and the inside wasn't tasty. Plus they were $7/lb
I would prefer a traditional boil with out the ice chest dusting though

Seems like there are way too many LA folks here for that to be true
They need to open a Sammy's in midtown. Would make a killing

You can buy them live in Kemah. Seafood shops on the bay.

I would think houston has better options than Dallas. My bf was down there last weekend and had good crawfish somewhere.

Newcomers seem to emerge every year, but Crawfish & Noodles remains the consensus favorite for best Vietnamese crawfish joint. Credit the signature garlic butter seasoning for its popularity, but even non-crawfish eaters will find a lot to like on the menu.

This Chinatown spot was last year's best newcomer thanks to the "Kitchen Special" that adds citrus and onions to the typical Cajun-inspired mix of spices. The Thai basil flavor that uses lemongrass is also worth trying, but the word is spreading.
The restaurant's whole crabs recently showed up in Texas Monthly, so expect the crowds to follow. Current price is $8.49 a pound.

Boil them yourself. There are tons of places in town to buy live.

Seafood on the Geaux is the real deal, but it's in Katy.

Like many others have said, you should boil yourself or find the other hundreds of thousands of Louisianians that have relocated to the Houston popular area.

I've been on a quest this entire season to find decent crawfish in Houston. And I'll go ahead an tell ya, it's few and far between.
Texans somehow took a time honored tradition and boiling method, made it more complicated, harder to eat, and no where near as good as the real thing. yet, they'll argue with you for days about their Uncle/Cousin/BrotherInLaw from Cajun Country Louisiana taught them this dusting recipe.
Anyhow, the places that I've found acceptable are:
- Pook's Crawfish Hole: It's in Sante Fe, TX. Between Houston and Galveston. 40 minute drive, but they are absolutely perfect and it's a cool little joint with great service and you can pull up an ice chest filled with beer or liquor. #6.99lb as of last week.
- That One Place: Yellowfin actually introduced me to this place. It's in Humble, TX. 20-30 minutes from Midtown/Downtown. It's a hole in the wall, but the crawfish are big and boiled right. No dust. They also have bitchin Hawaiian ice snowballs. They have specials where is you get 25lbs+ it's only $5.99 per lb.
Absolutely not acceptable:
- Rajun Cajun: Pretty much everything at Rajun Cajun is absolute shite, but people here in Houston rave about it. Idiocy. Crawfish are small and they hardly put anything in their boil. Bland. I'm pretty sure they get their crawfish from Rice, Texas not Louisiana like they claim.
- Big Woodrow's: This place claims they are the LSU and Saints bar in Houston. Yet, somehow still dust their crawfish and use a bland boil. And you couldn't pay me to eat anything else from there.
- LA Crawfish: this was my first crawfish of the season -_-. Mistakes were made. Heavily dusted, coated in the shite, small, bland, and likely were frozen. Certainly not live crawfish from Louisiana. And btw, who in the hell gave them the idea to create a culinary fusion of Asian food and Louisiana food? I guarantee no one in Louisiana signed off on that. You can get everything from Pho to Chicken Wings to shite crawfish. The "LA" in "LA" Crawfish must stand for Los Angeles, because it certainly isn't Louisiana. I ripped their new place on Richmond a new a-hole on Yelp. The owner emailed me cussing me out and then paid Yelp to remove my review. I just copied and pasted from a txt file and added it back. lol.
I've dropped by the HEB on Buffalo Speedway to see their boiled prices and take a look at their crawfish. Small, not dusted, but I can't imagine them putting enough crab boil in the pot either. It's being boiled right there in front of you by 2-3 Messicans. And no offense, but I don't ever want to eat at a place that has Messican cooks attempting to imitate Louisiana food. They need to stick to tortillas and beans.

Does HEB sell live crawfish by the pound? Would like to do some this weekend but don't want a whole sack.
