Do you say someone's name when you greet them or say goodbye?

For example: "Hello, John. How are you today?" or "Goodbye, Kentravious."
I just noticed that I never say their name and most other people do. Am I some kind of freak?

Depends on the person.

In a business setting, always.
Casual, not so much.

I hardly ever say someone's name unless I'm mentioning them to someone else.

Something I learned in a communications class at LSU way back in the day...
People LOVE to hear their name used in conversation. It makes them feel good. When I learned this, I have always made a point to use people's name when I can...especially if it is a fairly new acquaintance.

I do. and if just meeting them I repeat it in hopes it helps me remember their name

I always get their name wrong on purpose. Nothing I don't care more than getting their name wrong.

That's some business sales BS they teach when you use peoples name to both show them that they are important (Look! I know who you are.) and to make them feel a "connection" to you.
That stuff is true and does work BUT some idiots way overuse it and continually say the other parties name in lieu of pronouns. "Well Bill, knowing that our widget is vitally important to the success of your business I think it needs to be bought. Don't you Bill? I mean, Bill, after all you want to be successful. Right Bill?"
I literally tune people out when they pull that crap on me.

When people get a little too chummy with me I like to call them by the wrong name to let them know I don't really care about them.
