if david ortiz goes in before barry bonds, that would be a shame
Posted on 3/31/14 at 5:13 pm to LSU82BILL
that doesn't mean that ortiz was better

Highly unlikely it will happen. First of all Bonds was a first class prick with the media. Bonds had an obvious physical transformation, admitted using "the clear" and "the cream" and his supplier struck a deal with the Feds to avoid naming Bonds as a user and providing ALL of the details.
Whereas Big Papi was always BIG. Ortiz listed weight on 2014 Red Sox roster is 230 lbs. His weight on the 1997 Minnesota Twins roster as a 21-year old rookie was 250 lbs. That's exactly what he weighed in 2006 when he hit a career high 54 HRs.

Middle of the order guys are paid to hit bombs and drive in runs. Ortiz is unquestionably a more productive middle of the order hitter than Edgar Martinez.

if you measure production by RsBI, sure, but that's kinda dumb
martinez was a better hitter so to me that's better production
martinez was a better hitter so to me that's better production

Bonds was a 3 time MVP before said physical transformation.

Major League GM's don't. How do you define "better hitter"? A higher batting average?
Posted on 3/31/14 at 5:37 pm to LSU82BILL
obp, wOBA, wRC+. never batting average

I don't and if Bonds and Clemens don't get in the HOF it will become a huge joke!

Yep...IMO Bonds was a shoo in HOFer before he ever thought of juicing. He probably could have gone on to a career of 600 HR, 1,750 RBI and .300 without taking as much as a protein shake. Unfortunately, steroids have tainted everything he ever accomplished.

Good lucking getting the BBWA to embrace sabremetrics.

Yet Edgar Martinez and his great sabremetric stats only got him on 25% of the ballots last year?
Posted on 3/31/14 at 6:03 pm to LSU82BILL
well there were more than 10 guys better than him on the ballot
